American Idol: The Finals – Diana Ross

Did you see Diana Ross acting like she’s nice?  She’s usually anything but and epitomizes "Diva", maybe she’s mellowed out in her old age.  Still…I love her and most of her music.

Okay, enough about me.  Let’s get on to the quarterbacking.  😉

BrandonCan’t Hurry Love — He came out blah.  He can sing this kind of song but there was no excitement.  It seemed like the music was sweeping him along and he couldn’t keep up with it or something.  Oh poor guy forgot the words — oy!  I feel bad for him because the second half of the song was better.  They chopped him up quite a bit, considering it’s pretty early in the game.

MelindaHome — This girl can sing, no doubt about it.  What can you say?  She can sell a song, and I don’t even like that song.  Tonight she reminded me of Gladys Knight.  Can she be beaten?  — Hey, Simon just said the same thing — that she sounded like a young GK.

Chris S. Endless Love — Funky choice for him and a bad one.  The band seemed to be at cross purposes with the vocal — bizarre.  And it seemed like he changed the notes?

GinaLove Child — I LOVE this song, and she sang it well.  Sometimes she sounds like she’s yelling a bit.  I didn’t notice any pitchiness, although they seem to have.

I hope we don’t have too many of these theme nights.

SanjayaAin’t No Mountain High Enough — Oh dear.  Nice way to ruin one of my favorite Diana songs!  He needs to be gone.  He is bland.  What’s with the new do?  Oh, this is a mess and a mishmash.  Even with his new moves, he sucks.

HaleyMissing You — I actually thought this was one of her better vocals, but that’s not saying much.  Oops, now she forgot the words.  She should get the boot — after Sanjaya.  See, Simon has a heart — I think he felt he needed to be nice because she was breaking down.

PhilI’m Gonna Make You Love Me — Odd phrasing.  Awkward stage presence.  I thought the beginning was rather uninteresting, and I kind of don’t like to look at him.   When he gets going, he’s always good.  Is he missing the likeability factor or what is it that’s just not right?  Again, Phil, please, please, please take note.  You are NOT a balladeer.  You are a Steve Perry-ish singer…stick to what you’re good at will ya?  I can’t keep telling you this.

LaKishaGod Bless the Child — What was that weird thing she did with her voice at the end of the second line?  Another great performance.  It’s still the Melinda/LaKisha show.

BlakeYou Keeping Me Hanging On — I could have done without the pseudo Michael Jackson dance moves.  He did a good job of modernizing the song, but this was not a very convincing performance.

StephanieLove Hangover — Well sung for a song I don’t really like.  There seemed to be one odd note that she held sort of in the beginning, but it was a very good performance.  I didn’t notice that she forgot the words.

Chris R. — The Boss — I don’t know this song.  I think he tries to do too much with his voice and sometimes it sounds thin.  He did make it contemporary though.

JordinIf We Hold on Together — Seemed like she had to stretch for some of those notes.  I think she did rather well and made me like this song even though I’ve never heard it before.  Nice performance.

I have to say I was surprised at the odd song choices so many of them made.

Who should go home?  Sanjaya or HaleyPreferably Sanjaya.

So what did you think?
