American Idol – The Girls – As I See It

Let’s see if they can compete with the boys —

Kristy LeeRescue Me — Making big eyes at the camera doesn’t show originality.  Her voice is fine but nothing new there.  Cute girl.  Why did this song seem so long?  Was she pitchy?  I didn’t notice that, but it was kind of boring.  I give no points for illness.  She sort of reminds me of a young Kyra Sedgwick.

JoanneI Say a Little Prayer — Why choose a song with low notes that you can’t quite hit?  I never understood that.  Now this was definitely pitchy.  A whole lot of pitchiness.  I wonder if maybe she can’t hear the music behind her?  Maybe she needs an ear thingy?  I think she’s probably nervous.  I detect a good voice somewhere underneath all that wobbliness.

Simon is being tough but honest.

AlainaI Love You More Today Than Yesterday — What’s the name of this damn song?  Didn’t like the start and don’t care for the song.  Here we go again with this old crap and not bringing anything new to it.  She’s another cute girl.  Did these blondies come out of the Carrie Underwood Cookie Cutter?  They all look alike.  She needs to get rid of the whine in her voice and she needs to stop rolling her eyes when she sings — Suzanna Hoffs she is not.  Nice strong voice — maybe next week she’ll sing something better.  From the side crinkling up her nose, she reminds me of Julia Stiles.

AmandaBaby Please Don’t Go — This girl doesn’t interest me in the least.  She’s a one-trick pony, and we saw that trick too many times already during auditions.  She’d be great fronting a bar band.  Paula thinks she’s authentic?  I beg to differ. I can’t help but compare her to Joplin and Joplin ripped her voice from the depths of her being.  Amanda is no Joplin and she should stop trying to be.  Too bad, I really liked her during the open auditions.

Amy — Where the Boys Are — Shaky start to a song that I actually really like.  But why did she choose that song?  I assume she’s one of the sick girls and just can’t hit her low notes and her voice is all over the place but not on the notes.  Bad song choice, bad performance.

BrookeHappy Together — There must have been a very short list of songs to choose from since one of the guys sang this yesterday.  She has no stage moves so this is all very new to her, so I’m willing to give her some slack, but what’s with the hands to her head?  I’m willing to give her a chance to improve, but she better make it quick.  I didn’t hear anything original even though Paula seemed to.  I think she’s completely adorable though and I rather like her.

Alexandrea Spinning Wheel — Yet another song I can’t stand. Are they deliberately trying to annoy me? She sang with confidence so that was good.  I don’t like her upper register at all.  It’s so hard to judge a song that you don’t like.  Maybe next week she’ll sing something I can bear – so I can be more fair.

KadyGroovy Kind of Love — I heard this today on the radio and I thought this would have been a better choice for Garrett yesterday — Wayne Fontana was a bit of a sissy boy himself.  I kind of liked this, but is that because I like this song?  Her voice is a little bit shrill but I found this performance acceptable.  It was a confident performance albeit slightly sappy.  They want the fun side of her?  Maybe she should have sung My Boy Lollipop?  If looks could kill, we’d be looking for 3 new AI judges.

Asia’hPiece of My Heart — Hmmm, I kind of liked the black girl vibe on this song.  It made it different enough so it drew little comparison to Joplin.  It was the least uptight performance of the night — fun and alive.  Good for her because she won’t go the distance.

Ramiele — You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me — Oy, does she have some strange accent when she sings?  This is a fabulous song, but she’s doing such a slow ponderous version.  Where’s the life?  Dusty always put more life in this song.  This girl can really sing but she needs to lighten up a bit — she’s kind of bringing me down.  She reminded me a bit of Eartha Kitt.

SyeshaTobacco Road — Another song I never liked.  There were some iffy parts, but I like her voice a lot and want to see what she does next week, if she can pick a better song.

CarlyThe Shadow of Your Smile — Wrong song for this show.  She was trying too hard to show off her voice and wound up making this song difficult to listen to.  She should have just sung it straight.  I totally agreed with everything Simon said and just couldn’t believe how much Randy and Paula loved it.  I kind of hated it, way too cabaret.

<font face="Arial" size="2">Randy said the girls are hotter than the boys?  Maybe in looks but not in voice.

Who should go home?  Amy

So what did you all think?

I heard that a couple of the girls have had prior experience in the recording industry. I’ve not watched, yet…..except for a few auditions. I’m going to wait another week before we start recording so I can watch. I rely on your updates.

I think Brooke is cute even though she looks like she hasn’t eaten in a year and a half. She’s not AI type though- she’s married, for one, and I think a guy will win this round. Jordyn Sparks cannot perform if someone bashed a performance in her head with a 2×4 and some of those girls, Asiah particularly, had some great performance ability! I agree she won’t last. Paula was blitzed by thetime Syesha came onto the stage. Carly is cute, but she’s not AI type either, unfortunately. Whoever sold her horse to pay for a plane ticket—tsk tsk. How you been? You didn’t stop in and see my Nero buster did you? My cute little pittie boy- he just went home last night- a record short foster for me- 3 weeks!

I think Carly has a great voice but the song was booooring. Simon was a grumpus last night. I think Kristy or Alaina should go, or if they’re getting rid of the bottom 2 – both of them!
