EDIT: American Idol: 12 Girls

And we’re off.

"Oh please, please, please do better than Tuesday night", is what I was thinking going into this.

Stephanie — How Come You Don’t Call Me — I don’t know this song, but it sounded like she was off key in the beginning.  I do like her voice, and her performance really picked up once she got going.  When her nerves quiet down, she’ll be even better.  She put a lot of passion and fun in her performance.

AmyI Can’t Make You Love Me — Pitchy, very very pitchy.  She has something interesting in her tone, but I don’t think she was very good.  Nice lip gloss.

LeslieNatural Woman — You can tell she hasn’t spent much time on stage — very awkward and she had the moves we all have singing into our hairbrushes.  She sang the song fine, but there’s nothing interesting about her voice.

SabrinaNever Loved A Man — Didn’t think I would like her but I kind of did.  Went off key a few times, but she has possibilities.

AntonellaI Don’t Want to Miss a Thing — She was too nervous with too wobbly a voice, or does she have a vibrato?  A bit pitchy.  The song was too big for her voice.  I don’t know — maybe I don’t like her because I thought she and her friends were little bitches, and the other girl Marisa should have made it instead of Antonella.

JordinGimme a Reason— She had trouble with her low notes, but did really well once she got going.  Her higher register is much better.

Nicole?? — Oh my, this is just awful, hideous, terrible. How did she get through?  She got a little better towards the end but she makes bad faces and she needs to go. She seemed so damned angry.  Blech!

HaleyIt’s All Coming Back — #1 rule is do not smile through a song like that, it’s just wrong.  She could handle the song, but she does something weird where she adds downward tails at the end of some of the lines.  She lacked passion, and that’s a very passionate song.

MelindaSince You Been Gone — She wailed.  Good for her.  Perfect song choice.  Brian said, "Oh what a surprise, a black girl singing Aretha" and I about died laughing at his tone.

AlainaBrass in Pocket — Poor girl was way too nervous.  Weak performance, but I couldn’t figure out how she got through to begin with.  Nice hair.  Now, had I chose this song, I would have done it way differently and it would have suited her voice well.  I would have sung it a little slower, a little lower and much sexier.  Yeah baby!

GinaAll by Myself — She got a little screamy there, but I liked her.  I like a good alto, someone who can just sing the notes, but she has range.  She could use a bit more roundness in her high notes, but I want to hear more from her.

LakishaAnd I Am Telling You — Brought the house down, didn’t she.  ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY BREATHTAKING!  That’s one of those power songs that either blows the roof off or lands with a resounding thud.  I think she did it better than Jennifer Hudson does — more reminiscent of Jennifer Holiday’s version.  Good for her.  She takes on a whole different personality when she sings.  She’s just got it.  I’ve got goosebumps again just thinking about it.  She’s got the moves, the stage presence and the emotion behind the lyrics, all with a power house voice to back it up!  She is CLEARLY the best voice in that contest right now.  IF she doesn’t make it as the winner?  It’s due to the way she looks and that just fucking sucks!

So what happened?  I thought the guys were going to blow the girls away and I was sooooo wrong.  Do they have to have 6 and 6?  There are more . . . oh, they’re talking about it now.  I hope they don’t have to divide it 50/50.

Paula looked good again tonight and was quite coherent.

EDIT: I keep getting notes asking exactly what "pitchy" means.  So here you go, the definition of pitchy is: Notes in a song that are sung slightly sharp or flat. 🙂  Aka notes in a song sung off-key thereby making them pitchy.

I liked Lakisha, too. Loved, even?

we have a japanese chin at the shelter. you interested? he needs to be housebroken, but you have a ton of experience with that.

ryn; I believe so. none of our foster homes have come thru. He’s at north shore, which is just bad. Call Cheryl at 781-596-0510 I mentioned to both she and Adam that I had a contact with a Jap Chin rescue that I could call- that was you 🙂 Let me know!!!

hi i just called Cheryl- she knows you and had you on a contact list for the jap chin! he is still there and he’s depressed. She really likes him, says he’s a really good dog. If you get him, do you want Underdog ResQ to do his adoption or will you want to do it thru your rescue/contacts? You can email me at jwessen@underdogresq.org thanks 🙂
