It’s 3:00 AM – Where Are Your White Pigeons?

And I am awake.  Probably because I couldn’t keep my eyes open earlier and fell asleep just after 9:00 PM.  How lame is THAT?

Okay, the pigeons.  About a week ago I was sitting outside in the yard when I looked up and saw what I thought was a dove, at first.  I was all excited with the idea that a white dove had mysteriously appeared in my yard.  Even more titillating was the idea that this white dove wasn’t in the least bit afraid of me as I walked closer to it and the idea that he might be the messenger of a message of peace.  Sent to me.  (Stop laughing.)

Upon further inspection it’s a pure white pigeon.  Then another showed up.  What’re the odds?  2 pure white, people friendly pigeons taking up residence at my house?  They aren’t too afraid of the dogs and for the most part my dogs don’t want to be bothered with them either.  they co-exist in the yard, mere inches from each other at times.  I think because my dogs are used to a variety of different animals they don’t get excited with things like this.

Unlike their human mother.

At first I thought they were injured.  But upon further inspection they seem fine.  They both fly.

They’ve been here … for a week now.  So I’ve been feeding them.  Brian thinks they are homing pigeons.  I think they were being raised by someone and somehow broke free.

Today I sat in the yard and looked at my virginal pigeon friends and made up the beginnings of a pigeon love story.  Why?  Because they were canoodling up on the lower eaves.  Right in front of me.  My pigeon friends seem to have no shame.  My story is now that they escaped an evil captor who learned of their blossoming love and kept them apart.  They devised a secret plan and eventually busted out of their jailer’s care to fly free and love each other uninhibited.  Which was proven by the public canoodling.

The idea of little white baby pigeons excites me to no end, but I don’t see any nest building yet.  I hope they remain here and raise their pigeon family.  For as long as they are here, I will feed them.

I’ve named them, Clara and Carl Canoodler.  I will try and take some pictures of The Canoodlers tomorrow, err, today.
