Sick of Keeping Quiet
First, I have to say, I’m beyond keeping things to myself when I feel they need to be said.
Case in point. Took the bus from Revere home today. I always get dropped off at some stop before everyone else gets on at Wonderland so I can get a seat. Hold that thought, you’ll see why.
So I’m sitting there in my seat reading (Jodi Picoult ‘Salem Falls’). Wonderland comes up and as usual, a HUGE herd of people is waiting. The bus driver opens the back door to let someone off. Some ghetto-assed chick and her "friends" jump in the back trying to avoid paying and snatch some seats for themselves AND their bags in the process. FULL of bags from their trip shopping downtown. Bus driver hollers at them to exit the bus and get on in the front, like everyone else. They get all loud and obnoxious but do as the bus driver said. Head-Ghetto-Assed-Chick gets on and proceeds to sit her butt down one seat over from me (3 seats together) and places her bags on the empty seat between us. Then she proceeds to scream across the bus to her obnoxious cohorts. I’m 2 seconds away from telling her to settle it down with the ghetto hollering and use her inside voice. I decide to behave. Brian’s always saying I am going to get shot.
Now the bus is way past standing room only. An elderly person with a cane comes up and asks very politely if Ghetto Girl can move her bags so he can sit down. Amusingly enough this is after the loudspeaker announcement that we are to give up our seats for elderly or handicapped people. Without even looking up this jackass screams at the elderly person and tells him to go to the back where there are "plenty of seats".
There are NO Seats and the man would have to shuffle through at least 20 people to even get to the back of the bus. The elderly man looks at her horrified but begins to move away. I say, "Here sir, you can sit here" and wink at him. Then I get up and look at her and say, "Get your bags off the seat now please, I’d like to sit!" She looks at me and yells back that I need to mind my own business. I reply, "Listen here, this IS my business, get your bags off the seat before I remove them, you aren’t intimidating me." By this time the bus driver hears the fracas and she asks what’s going on. I tell her and guess what? Miss Ghetto ass gets removed from the bus.
HA! Take that. Right as she got off, the elderly man and the man next to him say, "I can’t believe you stood up to her." I reply, "I’m way sick and tired of these ghetto rats trying to intimidate everyone around them. She was wrong and I wasn’t going to sit there and keep my mouth shut. I’m tired of this every day. Day in and day out there are young people sprawled over 2 and 3 seats while pregnant women, handicapped people and the elderly are forced to stand and get half killed while the bus races around and stops short. I’ll continue to speak out."
If we don’t speak out and we wait for someone else to fix things, well, they never seem to get fixed. That’s how I feel about it.
Woohoo! GO MELLIE!

Can’t someone be a “bitch” without being a “Miss Ghetto Ass” or “ghetto rat?” Ugh.
