אני קושית יפה/I’m a Cute Black Girl Pg 13

This week…well on Monday the Rabbi furthered his teachings on Shabbat.

Even though this can be done by a Woman or a Man, I like the idea of it being done just by the Women in the house. I look forward to one day having a daughter and doing this with her.

  • Jews really like to Pray and Bless Everything.
  • On Shabbat there is a Blessing and Thanksgiving for The Wife and The Husband and The Son and The Daughter.

Yom ha-shishi. Vay’chulu hashamayim v’ha-aretz v’chol tz’va’am. Vay’chal Elohim bayom hash’vi’i milachto asher asa. Vayishbot bayom hash’vi’i mikol milachto asher asa. Vay’varech Elohim et yom hash’vi’i vay’kadesh oto. Kee vo shabbat mi-kol m’lachto asher bara Elohim la’asot.

Baruch ata Adonai, mi’kadesh ha Shabbat.

The sixth day: And the Heavens and the Earth and all they contained were completed, and on the seventh day God desisted from all the work that he had done. And God rested on the seventh day from all the work that he had done. And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, for on that day he rested from all the work which he had done in creating the world.

Blessed are you, Lord our God, Ruler of the Universe, who creates the fruit of the vine.

Blessed are you, Lord our God, Ruler of the Universe, how has sanctified us with his commandments and favored us, and given us in love and favor his holy Shabbat as an inheritance, as a remembrance of the act of creation. For this day is the beginning of all holy days, a remembrance of the Exodus from Egypt. For you have chosen us and you have blessed us from among all the nations. And you have bequeathed us your holy Shabbat in love and favor. Blessed are you, Lord, who sanctifies Shabbat.

While writing this, I pledge to myself that I too will take this on. Even though my husband is not Jewish and we have not been blessed with children, yet, there is no reason why I cannot take a moment every Friday to thank him…let him know just how much he means to me and how important he is to me

  • This isn’t a custom that I grew up doing, but I should perhaps take it on

Baruch ata Adonai, Eloheinu Melech ha-olam, asher kidshanu b’mitzvotav vitzivanu al n’tilat yadayim.

Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who has sanctified us with Your commandments, and commanded us concerning the washing of the hands.

Baruch ata Adonai Eloheinu melech ha’olam hamotzi lechem min ha’aretz.

Blessed are you, Lord our God, ruler of the universe who brings forth bread from the earth.

This week I learnt that the actual reason for only one Kiddush Cup being used was because Wine was a costly luxury and so at Shul when the Kiddush was said, all that was present would just sip from the same Kiddush Cup.

I grew up with my father saying the Kiddush with a similar Kiddush Cup to the one below

Every week I am learning something new and getting closer to creating my Jewish Home.
