105

This is one of the reasons I do not live in the Southwest any more – I liked it. it was beautiful, but the weather was pretty extreme some places.  Portland has a good run of seasons – there are four definate seasons, and one of the things I really like here is that it doesn’t go too far either way.

Usually.

This last winter, we had more snow (ok, NOTHING compared to maybe your place, but a LOT for PDX) than I’ve ever seen in 20 some winters here, and this summer, it’s HOT.  The temp out at the official weather station at the airport is supposed to hit 105 today and tomorrow… but what that means is, it will be HOTTER away from the Columbia River, where the airports at.  One of my school district’s school has a weather station at it and it hit 103 yesterday. My car said 103 too, and on the west side, someplace hit 107.

The apartment is cooler this year than in the past; the new windows make a big difference.  But, when the whole building soaks up hundred degree heat, it never "really" cools off.  It stayed above 80 in the apartment all night.  I’ve set out a couple bowls of water for the cat, and he sleeps right by the door, because a pretty good breeze comes in from the hallway outside – I think he’ll be ok.

(I’m glad I don’t have a fur coat)

My car is new and has air conditioning, and it works, after awhile of moving the HOT air out of the heat soaked car, but I miss the old style of A/C that used freon – it was noticably colder.

And you know, it’s days like this that make me wonder wtf I was thinking, getting a BLACK car.

***

Well, I’ve charged up the camera’s batteries, and all I need to do is leave.  I’m thinking US 26 to the coast, change to US 101 north, got to Astoria, and turn onto US 30 and head back along the Columbia River, a good loop.

Oh how I wish I was riding with you. Take LOTS of pictures. Is the Hanford plant still up and running?

Would it be awful to take my cat into the groomer to be shaved? I am so worried about him in this heat.

well, this is exactly the reason i DO live in the southwest. 🙂

ouch…that is much too much! it was 104 yesterday and it sucked !

Air conditioners don’t use freon anymore?

P.S. PLEASE tell Penguinswalkamongus that shaving a cat is not a good idea. Their fur actually helps them keep cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Shaving a cat can be irritating to the skin and the heat actually gets to the skin worse when there is no hair to cover it. The cat would be much hotter if the sun or heat was directly against it’s skin as opposed to having the fur protect the skin from sunburns and heat.

have a good time! take care,

I could of bet that 105 was interstate, not temperature. Sorry your sweaty guy. After one of the most continually cold winters, we are now having a pretty mild summer, unusually mild but dare I say that? August is coming. Have fun on the ride.
