13 years
Today marks 13 years since I moved into this apartment. I was in an Adult Foster Home, recovering from a car wreck, when someone put my name on the Housing list. I was told my name had come up and that I should go look at the apartment and see if I wanted it. It was also made clear to me that my insurance had run out and that the state wasn’t going to pay for my Foster care anymore. I was told that if I didn’t take the apartment that I would go back to the bottom of the list… and unspoken but implied was that I should get my own shopping cart, that I would be homeless if I did’t take it.
Well, that was some incentive, but I didn’t really need any once I saw the apartment. It’s on the 8th floor and looks south into the Willamette Valley, and since this is the tallest building around, I have a super view off the balcony. In fact, when I came to visit the apartment, and saw the balcony, I said "I’ll take it! Oh. I should look at the rest of it." I moved in the next week, the day I finished Diversion, for drunk driving, which is how and why I had the wreck.
It’s a studio apartment, ~400 square feet, and it’s perfect for one person. It’s not too big to keep clean and is a cozy place… which is a good thing, considering how much time I spend/have spent here.

Sounds ideal – and the view from the balcony must be a huge bonus. Best, A
