Big Bear

I left Portland at 1 pm and drove out of the state 8 hours later on I – 5.  I drove twelve hours and then slept for three hours or so and got back on the road at 3:45 this morning.  I called Jhni every so often to let her know I was on my way.  I got to Big Bear at about the time I figured, between 4 and 5 pm, and found no snow on the main roads… but plenty up the side streets.  It was just over a thousand miles here.

After dinner and a movie ("The Addams Family"), Jhni has to get up early to work half a day Wednesday, and then we’re free to do whatever.  I called and emailed my cousin – I have yet to hear of plans for New Years Day, but the tentative plan is to see my cousin and maybe some other family members.

I printed out more than a dozen 8 x 10’s of my pictures – good stuff.  Multnomah Falls in various seasons, and Crater Lake, and some others of Oregon’s finest as seen by my camera.  Not sure who all is going to be there, but I think I have enough pictures printed out for now.

The cruise down was mostly uneventful, except the fog in Northern California was SO thick that one point, I was down to 35 miles an hour last night and this morning.  I was wrong in a previous entry; 75 mph is NOT the speed limit in California, it’s 70, and I found today that even if I had gotten the cruise controL installed that I couldn’t have used it much today – the roads were crowded and a steady speed was more a wish than reality.  I did find though that my Caliber has a "sweet spot" at about 75 miles an hour.  It’ll keep variations on that speed all day.

I bought four tanks of gas on my way down here; none cost me more than 17 dollars.

I’ll likely leave here Friday morning so as to get back to on Saturday night; school starts Monday  the fifth.

Three weeks vacation for Winter Break this year; we’ll be working well into June because of the snow days last week.
