Friday misc.
I got eight hours of sleep last night!
This is a big change from a couple hours here, a couple there, and those vampire hours I kept with the paper job.
Of course, one nice thing about the job is that I get to drive around at the best time- few on the roads after nidnight.
My foor is getting better by the day. It still hurts, especially just waking up and stepping over to the bathroom, but, I know it’s getting better, so it’s ok.
I have the weekend off, for the first time in two and a half years. I’ve been doing the two editions of the Sunday papers since January 04, so it will be sort of unsual to have a whole weekend off. Well, whole, except the Monday sunrise edition comes out earlier than everything else, so to work "Monday" I’ll actually leave home about 11:30 Sunday night. It will be interesting to go back to work.
(I hope that lasts for awhile)
My van’s insurance is due tomorrow, and at the moment, my account is still overdrawn, so the automatic withdrawal will be refused. I called the boss the other day and asked for some "comp" to pay my bills- at least a gesture to keep them happy. The insurance is a necessity though. I cannot drive without it, and if I do and get pulled over- well, that’s how I got the van- someone else in it was pulled over with no insurance and they are merciless. They’ll immeadiately have you towed off if you don’t have insurance.
To cut the long story short, the boss’ll give me a check later today that will cover the insurance and leave mw about 60 bucks- maybe 50. Enough to scrape by until next payday, I’m hoping.

The boss is considering becoming an employer. I’m paid as an independant contractor right now, which looked like a good idea when I started this job, but has proven to be a bad deal for me. For the "boss" too- he’ll have to pay into the workman’s comp pool when he becomes an employer, true, but he won’t be parting with cash from his pocket after his employees get injured either.
Best thing for me is that I will be getting a W-2 or -4 or whatever it is and the gov will be sending me checks instead of the other way round. Since my taxes will be taken out before I get the check, I’ll get less, and so will likely make this a part-time job and find another one too, I will have a little easier time of it doing my taxes next year. (although it was really pretty easy with Turbo-Tax)
I spent most of the day at home yesterday, going out to the bakery thrift store via a different route to prolong the drive and to revel in my A/C, which didn’t work at this time last year, but does now. Good thing- the minivan is a hot box otherwise, and the driver’s window doesn’t work, so A/C is real good. This is the first used vehicle I’ve ever had where the A/C really worked – most of them had some or all of the systems in them, but didn’t work. My former wife (K*) bought a car so she could commute to her teaching job, when we lived here, and that car’s A/C worked… but none of mine ever have.
It will be the hottest weekend of the year so far- high 90’s Sat/Sun and 100 for Monday.
I wrote a letter to my brother two days ago and mailed it and a picture of K*, A, and I at Women’s Forum overlook in the Gorge. He had sent me a pic of him too – my brother at 42! Wow.
(which I did not scan before the scanner broke)
Still haven’t gotten a reply to my email to Jhni in Big Bear re: coming up here… three weeks later.
OK.
K* will be 45 in July.
August will be our 25th "anniversary" of meeting.
All in all, it has been an interesting 25 years.
Things in my life have altered quite a bit from then.
I don’t live in someone’s basement now, for one thing.
Although, I have about the same amount of money as then,,,
Not much at all.
But, it will be good to see her again nonetheless.
(she lives in Japan but comes here every summer to see me)

August is getting closer and closer too. I’m glad the boss is considering the benefits of being an employer. That probably gives you other workplace protections as well. A second job will get you out to meet other people and develop other skills…basically creating opportunity for personal and business adventures.
