I’m purty vain about my photography; I know I’m pretty good at it.  I met K*, my Japanese friend when I was 19.  I had a camera then, an old Leica, but K* had a really nice Nikon and then, I considered her the better photgrapher.  27 years later and tens of thousands of pictures later, I still think she’s a superior photgrapher… but I’ve had way more practise.

I’ve been going through the pictures we took during her visit in 2007; we drove from Portland to the coast, down the coast to Coos Bay, then over to Crater Lake, back up north on the east side of the Cascades and across the river to see Maryhill and Stonehenge, then back to the coast.  There are 1523 pics in my file from the weeks she was here; she’s got 1252 in her’s, and there’s another 320 or so that we both took in another folder.  I was looking through those folders for pics of me, vain cat that I am, and saw that her pics are really very nice:

We stopped on the coast at a place we’ve stopped before, at Devil’s Churn.  There are restrooms there on US 101, and a trail down to the churn.

It’s not an uncommon stop – those restrooms have been, in days past, a welcome sight, don’t ya know.

Since she’s a Japanese woman – from Japan, it always gave me great pleasure to show off my country – and Oregon.  I’ve taken her to Crater Lake 3 or 4 times now:

She’s much better at catching these one of a kind shots; the bird above Crater Lake.

I don’t know if a bad pic of Crater Lake can be taken:

It’s just such a Beautiful place.

Our last trip in the car was back out to the coast – Hug Point, south of Cannon Beach:

Lovely. The last one… the one before… I like waves. I was just thinking how I’d like to be somewhere – and see the two of you together. You’d be movie stars. Makes me smile to think.

Mmm, beautiful. I’ve only once been to Oregon – we went through on the train, the Coast Starlight – but I’d like to go and see some of these places for myself sometime.
