Interests

Interests.

You might notice that my interests list changes every so often.

A reader just noticed that her country is on my list and asked why.

I’ll tell you right here.

Australia is on my interests list for a couple of reasons; a lot of my readers are from Oz, and I like to know where people are coming from. 

I nearly moved to Australia when I was 12 or 13.

My dad lost his job in the aerospace industry in the defense cutbacks of the early 70’s.  He was out of work for a long time, and they went through the savings, cashed in our college fund savings bonds, and mom and dad were fairly desperate. Austalia was Paying people to come to Oz, if the country needed their expertise.

They woulda paid us to move there.  The Australian embassy sent us a pcket of Autralia information – neat color photo books all about the country, which I later used as show-and-tell props and as the basis of reports and etc.  I wanted to move to Oz!

I coulda been Mel Gibson….

I lived in Japan a total of about six years, and have had some association with Japan all my life,  My former wife is Japanese, and she’s been a part of my life for 25 years now, as friend, lover, wife, travel companion, etc.

I have been to Canada – we drove up there from Maine, where we were living, in 1984.  I had to ask sheepishly if they took american money.  ‘Twas beautiful up there – looked like Maine, only fewer people.  I’ve got a lot of Canadian readers too.

I live in the USA, so that’s on the list, and so is South Africa.

One of my favorite writers in high school days was Wilbur Smith.  He writes of South Africa, of southern Africa, and etc in adventure stories that cought my immagination.  I’d love to go see SA, and will, right after I buy that winning lottery ticket, lol.

I’d really like to see New Zealand too – it looks gorgeous in the Lord of The Rings series of movies.

With a little immagination, Oregon can be any one of those places, so it could be worse.
