It turned out differently

First off, I did spend Thanksgiving with my cousin and his wife.  Just not at her parent’s place.  Her dad’s place, really, like we have the last two years.  Apparently there is some friction between sister (my cousin’s wife) and her brother, so we did not go there.  Thanksgiving was at some dear friend’s house here in Portland, ironically, just a block or two away from the Foster Home I lived in after the car wreck in 1998.

(I have been there, or right nearby anyway, three times in the last month – twice lately with my high school take-home runs for work, and once now with my cousins.  Cue "Twilight Zone" theme please)

It turns out to be a short-loved tradition too; my cousin is selling his house and they are moving down to northern California to be closer to the rest of the family, so next year, I will be the only one of my family up here again.  3 years of "togetherness" is not enough to really change life-time habits – I am used to being along – so next year’s holiday season will be different.

It was a good feed, yesterday – turkey and all the trimmings and a good pumpkin pie.  I met interesting people and had interesting conversations.  The only downside is that I didn’t come home with any leftovers and no turkey scraps fo my Blacky Cat.  (He loves turkey, so it’s a good thing he doesn’t understand English, I guess, or holiday timing.)

No word about work either, so I guess I have another unpaid day off today.  If school’s back in session next week. I suppose there might be some take-home runs Monday and Wednesday nights… But I’m thinking that this feast or famine stuff is getting too old for me.  I think I’ll look for another job, and they say it’s best to have one when you’re looking for one.

Hmm.  No rain today – "partial clearing" and fairly bright out there.  Maybe I’ll go for a drive and take some pictures.  No Black Friday sales for me.  It’s back into poor, broke mode for me.  I need to be very conservative with the money I have saved, since the next check will be damn slim indeed.

That "I have an income again!" thing turned out to be a short-lived thing too.

Onwards, I guess.

don’t give up it’s just a slow time is all

Good thing that you saved some. Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving dinner :). Darn on the left overs! I wish you could taste my mom’s pie just once in your life!

You are jumping to a conclusion. Don’t jump ship yet—or at least get some sort of job where you will still be available to drive—they’ll need you next spring, summer, and fall for schools and conventions and similar stuff in Portland.

Look for work that could be very flexible. How about a “driver” category in a temp service? Check if any of the delivery companies need extra drivers for the christmas rush.
