J Day, June 8, 2011
J-Day. Job Day. An historic event, in my book.
I’m not usually a "bounce out of bed" kind of guy. I like my bed, even if it takes me a long time to get into it every night. Once I’m finally in it, I like to stay there.
I got up at 6:30 yesterday, so I could walk out of here at 7:30 and go the mile up to Bybee and catch the 19 bus, to go downtown to the court. I used to get up at that time to start my Medical Transpo day, and I used to get up at 5:30 to start my school bus driving days too, but the days when I had to get up early were few and far between, since I chucked the med transpo thing, so this morning, when I woke up at six twenty five, and I knew the alarm was set for 7, I wondered, "why am I getting up early?"
Why? I HAVE A JOB.
Granted, I don’t have to be there until ten this morning, to fill out the paperwork – W-2, this, that, and the other, and once I do, well, that’s The Job really starting, but why am I waking up now? It was 6:30 again. I went to the bathroom and saw that Blacky Cat was still happily asleep in his carrier under the bed, so I dove back into bed, knowing that the alarms – the phone and the alarm clock both, were set at 7. I knew I didn’t have to be in north Portland for three more hours, and why not stay with my loved bed as long as I could.
Well, it’s 7:37 now. The cat has been fed and shot up with his insulin, I’m about to make some more coffee – left overs from the night before’s pot are ok, but just ok – and it’s time to turn on the news and see what’s happening
Fleet Week begins today, and with the river, the Willamette, so high, there will be multiple bridge lifts today, and I’ll plan a route to work (nice to think that way!) that doesn’t go over any bridges that have to lift for the ships. The biggest Navy ship we will see this year is a frigate, the others are too tall to get under even some of the lifted bridges. 27 years ago (wow, that long ago???) I was an engineer on a frigate – I might really do a ship’s tour this year, to see what an FFG looks like in the 21st century. That would be this weekend or something, because…
I have a job to go to.
Yup, I am a working cat again. Ahhhhhh….

oh, by the way, Garmin, after I eamiled them, is going to exchange my faulty unit for a new one. It will still be Tammy, but maybe I’ll call her Tammy Too.

My parents’ GPS device is named Hannah. I wonder if they all get named.
