Life is an adventure

Some years ago, I had an epiphany.

I was over at my friend A’s house on a Saturday afternoon.  He was working on a car or something outside, and I was inside, drinking my coffee and watching some afternoon movie.  A came in and asked "What’s on?" and I told him, "Oh just some adventure flick – you know, our hero just goes thru one damn thing after another".

I listened to myself speaking and realised that I had just used a phrase that I had long used for myself – at that point life seemed like just one damn thing after another, and I was unhappy.  I had just described my life as an adventure!

I saw life with a new perspective from that point – it is an adventure, and it is just one thing after another, damn or otherwise.

The continuing adventures of car ownership are often an adventure too.

After all I’ve done to my van, I had hoped that I had done everything that needed to be done.

But nooooo.

I had it serviced awhile back at Jiffylube- oil changed, air filter, etc.  The girl who had checked my radiator (which I had just recently bought) told me that the boil-over protection of the anti-freeze was low and that I should pony up the 99.00 bucks to service it then and there.

I didn’t have 99 extra bucks, and besides, the radiator had just been replaced and I assumed new fluid had been poured in it too.

Last night, it was boiling fiercely. I heard it but kept driving anyway.  (insert stupid stamp here)  I came home, got some sleep, and blissfully forgot about it.  Until I had to drive to the store a few hours ago, that is.  I drove over to Schucks auto to get more anti-freeze… and the gage lights saying Overheating came on.  I don’t think the thermostat is operating right- the woman who did the radiator said it was weak (no extra money again) but I didn’t replace it.

So, in addition to more anti-freeze, I bought a thermostat and a new radiator cap and am waiting for it to cool.  I’ll finish this real quick and go do it before the light fades.  Dinner will have to wait.

Life is an adventure.  Everyone, repeat after me:  Life is an adventure!  (if I hear it enough, I may be reconciled to that fact)

The rent is due next week and I’m way short.

That’ll be adventurous too.

I’m crossing my fingers that the radiator revives itself. The rent…at least you’ve talked to your landlord so he/she knows about your recent difficulties. Hopefully he’ll be supportive.

Life is an adventure! 🙂

Far out… this van is causing you so much trouble. It’s almost like it’s cursed! But I have no doubt that our hero WILL win out against it in the end… I like the analogy 🙂

Good luck. The van’s life is an adventure, that’s for sure.

Sorry to hear that you are still having problems. It’s been a hell of a month for you.But as you say it is an adventure, and I guess all of this will help you to grow as a person, emotionally, and ..can I say it..(Spiritualy). You have just sprouted a new branch this saturday by seeing your life differently.I bet all of these problems sparked that growth spurt! So keep growing as the adventure

unfolds before your very eyes………Then one day you will be a tall strong tree, bringing forth beautiful fragrant blossums, (Patience, self control, charity and compassion for others in those circumstances etc.) then after the blossums, the fruit,( Actions that lead to helping others in those circumstances.)No-one can help another person until he has seen how it feels to be in that predicament.

Personal experience is the best teacher there is I have found.

I am still praying for you. God will answer my prayer and you will have your rent money, so don’t worry.Be happy! His answer will be just another part of your adventure!!

We all send our love over there to you, and hope today begins a new chapter in your story.A more wonderful, happier, joyful chapter!! Lots of best wishes again,

I once noted you that your life is an adventure (that was the time I suggested you start wearing a cape!!). You are very much like some of the “heroes” of myth…. always one thing after another (many of ’em “damn things”) but somehow you always get through ’em. :o) !! hugs, Weesprite

I like the way you refer to life as an adventure, even though it is one thing after another! 🙂

Certainly puts a different spin on things to view it that way. Hope the vehicle problems start lessening up. My goodness it seems like you’ve been putting so much money into that thing and it’s not repaying you with being cooperative and functioning..

when blake was little, he and i used to jump in the car and go on adentures. but, for some reason, maybe it’s the price of gas, we haven’t gone on one in a long while. since it’s just me and him today, maybe we’ll go on one. take care,

Heh, that’s what I told my daughter when we got lost in one of the less pleasant Boston neighborhoods. “We’re not lost, we’re having an adventure!” Great epiphany, though. I’ll have to remember it.

hopefully the new thermometer did the trick? definitely you’ve had more than your share of adventure recently.
