Misc. geekiness
My copy of Windows XP dates from 2002 on the Restore disks that came with my computer. I changed out the C disk – the system drive – a few days ago and reformatted the new drive with the original software disks. I had to download over 200 security updates, patches, and software updates. My original copy of Internet Explorer was IE 5 – I downloaded, or went through several versions and got to IE 8, which is, I guess, not playing well with my older hardware.
Computers sold these days have more advanced processors than my single-core AMD Sempron (inexpensive "budget processor"). Everything has multiple core processors now – my computer is old.
Replacing the motherboard and processor is kind of like jacking up the hood ornament and driving a new car under the old one, eh, and not really sensible
It is not apparently not playing well with Internet Explorer. I downloaded Google Chrome, which seems to work very well. I’ve been avoiding Google anything because, I don’t know, iconoclasm, stupidity, whatever. Chrome seems to work flawlessly, so I made it my default Internet browser.
(fingers crossed)
I have looked into upgrading THIS machine to Windows 7, but, well, that "old" thing gets in the way – why not just buy a new machine?
I’m not sure I need to spend that money – or I mean, run up that credit card any more, and if I did, well, I guess I’d have to get a laptop – to take my computer with me.
Hmmm. Don’t have to wonder what that means.
ANYWAY.
The computer, new disk drive (an SSD disk, solid-state, no moving parts, no heat, no wear, The New Thing) installed and operating system fully updated, works well, and with the right software running, looks like it will be stable.
Onwards.

Heavy rain today over an inch in one hour, with active thunderstorms and hail. My Blacky Cat would have been hiding from the thunder – I miss him.
*****
Chrome works a little differently than IE does, especially for text editing, it looks like.
