My Blacky Cat 9

I changed a lot of my life for my cat. For example, I started, right after I got him as a kitten, to keep the toilet closed. I taught him to use it as a step onto the sink, where he liked to lick my toothbrush:

I used my stove differently too:

He jumped up onto the kitchen sink/oven counter, so I stopped using the front burners, or if I did, I always made sure Blacky wouldn’t jump up here and burn his paws.  I’d put cool pots on the front burners if they had been used… or ate a lot of microwave food.

His food and water dish were here in the kitchen:

This is one of the last pictures I took of my cat, on the weekend before he died.

He laid on my bed long enough to turn it black:

There were times when I was sure I had three cats, given the amount of hair I was sweeping and vacuuming up….

*

*

As it turned out, I had thirteen cats:

My friend K*’s joke: "You DO have many cats!"

Blacky DID have his own bed:

I find myself slowly opening the apartment door, even now, because Blacky used to lie on the doormat, and would wind himself around the open door to look out in the hallway – "what’s changed?"

Ah, but what has changed now is that Blacky Cat is gone. Even my neighbors miss him.

I just read thhrough all of your recent entries. I’m so sorry about Blacky. You really had a special bond and great relationship with him. I love how well you treated him. To many of us, they are our babies…the focus of our lives. I know my 2 cats are. I really can’t imagine how you’re feeling.. Sending you some virtual hugs.

Lovely entry. Lovely pics. Long may Blacky Cat be remembered. I love those cushions – and the cat snuggled up with them as if he is King of Cat Cushions. Best wishes, take care ~A~ RYN: didn’t know he had written this book as a satire – but I am really enjoying it second time round.

Hi NWC, Thanks for the tip about what the pig on the ski lift is saying. I was about to go nuts trying to understand him. Jim in Austin, TX aka…Dot Com Man

Doris Day was a big animal lover – had a refuge along the coast in northern CA. Retired, died. Son Marty Melcher owned the house where the Manson murders took place. I made this all up but it’s mostly true.

Yep. When you get done grieving, you need a new friend.

That’s the only thing that I was strict about when training my cat. Made sure that she understood that the top of the stove was on spot in the entire apartment that is off limits to her. Not sure how or why, but she understands. It’s not like I hit her or did anything very nasty when she want up there, but was just firm with my voice and kept taking her off it.
