No, Cat. No. No.
Ummm, the car DOES not need brake pads or brake shoes, and will not for a long time.
I washed the car yesterday over at A’s house, and when I turned around to go home, the brakes made noise. Not a grinding, and not a raspy bad brake sound, but Cat (pseudonym, for me) assumed the worst, not having had a new vehicle (46,000 miles, all mine, means the car is still almost "new") have bad brakes.
Here, there’s no cash and I’m in hurry to wrack up more on the Visa card, and how stupid is that Cat anyway.
(Umm, I should keep better track of which voice I’m trying to use)
Lemme slap on some more (I don’t want to say "stupid") decisions I made.
I drove home last night, from A’s house, no noises, or just one or two times and I was like, yeah, it solved itself, yay.
I drove it this morning, and got that noise, thinking, oh shit, and not going any further. I called the dealer and the price for a front brake job was kinda high, I thought, so I called Les Schwab and they wanted 30 less, so, ok, let’s do it, I said, and made an appointment for late this afternoon.
A called and reminded me I was supposed to bring him something, and when I went down there, Brother A said, in other words than these, "hey dummy, go get the free inspection first. Do you KNOW it needs new front pads? Yer gonna walk into that shop this is afternoon with a big sign on your head that says "money to burn- come and take it".
Umm, well, umm, ahhh, ohhh….
So on the way home I stopped for the free inspection – Les Schwab’s a good place if you own a car, free inspections on tires, brakes, batteries, and stuff, and in a few minutes (I watched) the tires came off all around, the rear brake drums came off (big clouds of dust, brake dust, asbestos dust. yuck)
(hmm. Some memory got dusted off too. Back in the day, when I had a car with four wheel drum brakes, you kinda wanted to blow the brakes out with compressed air every so often, or sometimes the dust would like, get between the shoe and the drum and prevent full contact and it makes… a sound like my left rear brake, the one full of dust today made)
I do not feel like the brightest coin in the fountain.
…on the other hand, now the brakes sound like they should, work like they should, and don’t need any attention, really for tens of thousands of miles.
so it worked out

Yay! Problem solved! as for the agency and my attorneys, I will forever doubt the ability for these people to read and comprehend anything.

free inspections? hell wish we had that here in the UK (if we do I don’t know about them – or maybe I walk around with that money to burn sign too). I just had a full service on my car and now waiting for the big bill to hit the mat … then I will hit my credit card with it – and hope I can pay for it at some point. Good news for you though and I imagine Cat has a big grin and is purring happily now. Very best, A
