The best shots IX
Crater Lake is Oregon’s Crown Jewel, yes, but it is not the only gem in it’s crown. No, near my home, is the Columbia Gorge, where the Columbia River flows past Oregon and Washington states and more than a dozen waterfalls flow.
The best known of these, and the most photographed in this diary, is Multnomah Falls, the second highest waterfalls in the United States. The Falls has two steps; the first one is 502 feet high, and the water falls straight down into a pool, and over the lower step. A bridge, built in the first years of the last century runs across these two steps, and since it is winter and COLD out now, we will begin our look at Multnomah Falls with some pictures I took in the winter of 2005:

Here, we are below the falls, looking up at the bridge between the two steps.

Here is the widest possible view with my digi-cam, showing a frozen wonderland of Great Beauty.

Here is the view from the bridge, looking down into the lower falls pool, and you better believe that the bridge was dangerously icy, and that by leaning over the rail to get this shot, I was taking my life in my hands just for this shot – just for you.
What a guy.

This is a view of the Falls this last summer:

People come here from all over the world, from all over to see one of Oregon’s best features. In fact, if you flew into the airport in Portland and rented a car, this is less than thiry minutes from the airport.

This is the view of Multnomah Falls Lodge, from above on the trail to the bridge above the lower Falls. The food here is wonderfully delicious, and is Northwest-inspired. It ain’t no McDoanlds, but it isn’t too expensive a visit either, and in good weather, there is a deck you can dine on, outside, with the wonders of the Falls at your back, and it is a Perfect way to enjoy your meal.
You Vegans out there? No problem. There is a Vegan menu that rivels the steaks in it’s tastiness. This is Oregon, after all, and this is one of it’s wonderous Great Beauties.
Come see it for yourself sometime!

I haven’t been there in years, in spite of living in such close proximity. I need to go back. Consequently, Kentucky Falls in is breathtaking. It’s between Eugene and Florence, and there’s nothing like it when the weather is nice.

Wow, they are fantastic pictures. I love waterfalls… The railbridge in front of the falls reminds me of some in Sri Lanka – they had a drama on TV with a similar picture as its setting (only wild jungle as the background – instead of Portland’s stately forests). RYN:LOL! We’re ALL works in progress!! In fact, some people might say I’m a real piece of work… btw- visitors are always
