the never ending arctic blast (pics)
It doesn’t look like I’m going anywhere for Christmas this year. Unbelievably. another 8 inches of snow fell between bedtime and waking up just now. (and dammit, those alarms for 5:10 don’t apply now, it’s Christmas. err ahh, I mean Winter Break!!!).
Another 8 inches to you might mean ho hum, another night of snow, but here! Down here at 76 feet (plus eight floors) 8 MORE inches of snow is unheard of. I’ve lived here since 1987, more or less, and this is the most snow I’ve EVER seen here.
I did find some cable chains for my car but didn’t buy them… and now I wish I had because my car is totally buried out there in the lot, no sign of blue remains of it.

WOW with capital letters. Getting the car over to BiMart to get the cable chains looks to be… foolish? a lot of work? maybe impossible? I could maybe walk up to Bybee and hope a bus comes along today, go to BiMart, get the chains, come back here (on the bus, which may or may not come), dig my car out, chain it up…and then what?
Monacita lives out in the country, and if it looks like this here….brrr! I’m not sure if I want to imagine it out there. The point being, I don’t think she can get here to get the apartment key, and if she could get here once, I don’t know if she could again, like on Christmas Day when I’ve been gone a few days and Blacky Cat is Hungry and needs his box changed.
I’m not entirely sure if I can get out of here now anyway, and it’s a thousand miles to Big Bear and more to the family brunch.

And it’s STILL snowing.

Meanwhile, Big Bear is lookin’ like this:

Yeah. Snow here. Snow there, and more of it too.

Good Heavens, Cat, I lived in Oregon from 1953 to 2001, and I have NEVER seen it like that in the valley EVER! My jaw positively dropped when I saw the pictures. I am so sorry this seems to have screwed your holiday plans over–this one was so important to you. However, visiting relatives isn’t just for Christmas–what about a reunion after New Year’s? You and Blacky Cat stay warm!

10:15 am. It’s still snowing here. Highways to the coast are closed. I-84, the only interstate east between Seattle and San Francisco, is closed to all traffic, and has been for two days already. I-5 going south is open…but Siskyou Pass on the California border is probably a chains only drive… and Big Bear. Maybe not the best time to roadtrip.

How horrible to have to cancel your trip. We do not have that much snow here, even!
Warning Comment
Wow! You have a lot of snow, and I bet it’s wet snow and slippery. At least it’s so cold here that the snow is dry and not too icy.

move to ohio cat / we have less snow than you do!!

Hey Guy, I’m sorry about this damn snowfall. I know it is putting a hell of a kink in your Xmas plans to go south. Maybe things will work out. Anyway, I’m keeping my fingers crossed in your behalf.

I am hoping that the roads will vastly improve by tomorrow and that I can at least take a few buses to Portland tomorrow. I’ve got cabin fever from not being able to drive in over a week. This is the most snow I recall ever seeing in my life!
Warning Comment
sheesh, that is way to much snow for me!… I’m sorry that this has put a crimp in your plans…….

Well Now, that is some crazy shit in Big Bear! I suppose Portland isn’t up for that kind of snow removal huh? I suggest you bring your bike in and let it dry, spray some WD-40 on it and then get a tarp for winter or you’ll be buying unrusty parts for it come Spring. I’m sad it dappens your plans guy.

postpone your reunion til after the snow melts!

Snow prevents access…makes it very difficult.
