Whatever happened to the $35 alternator???

I mean seriously, what the fuck?

Been calling around to check prices on my alternator, which is toast, and the range is $109.99 to 137.99.  Fricking Volvo parts territory!  (Although I am like, totally sure that Volvo alternators are in the multi-hundred dollar range these days)

Hmmm.

Do it myself and get totally soaked?  Work on electric stuff in the rain???

Maybe not the best of ideas.

(and will this rain never fucking cease???)

Pay someone else to do it, in a proper shop, with the right tools?  In the DRY?

Choose now cat – walk and lose the bus job (which starts it New Year next Tuesday – got time to deal) and stay with the paper routes and breathe in that exhaust gas or part with at least 140 bucks.

The shop I used pretty much exclusively shut down with almost no notice last week, but one of the mechanics called and left a voice mail for me and wants to "continue the relationship".  His new job is in a shop just three blocks away from here… and, they are open today and can change damn thing today.  I just called ’em.

Can’t be too much more than the cost of the part, can it?  It is a simple in and out sorta job.
