yesterday on the creek
As I write, the news has pics and stories from the midwest and east and the south – it’s really cold, especially in Florida. I guess strawberries may be expensive this winter.
Earlier today, I posted pics from the Surprise Snowstorm that hit us last week taken at my friend A’s house on Johnson Creek. Here’s what the creek looked like yesterday (and in the first photos of 2010 for me):

For anyone folowing these pics (Johnson Creek has been a recurring subject here), you see the creek is pretty high. Last year on New Years Day, Johnson Creek flooded Foster Road and A was effectively stranded for a couple of days because Foster was closed east and west of him.

A’s firepit can be seen here. After the snowstorm, the creek rose to that cement cylinder. Last year this was under a couple feet of water – cleaned out the firepit, eh?
{just between you and me, when A got divorced, he dragged "her" couch out here and set it alight… and freaked out when it BLAZED up wildly and singed the trees – and they were farther away then. You’d figure they WANT to stay away, eh?}

Looking at the right upper end of this pic, you can see Foster Road. The city has bought up the land on the other side of the creek – indeed, they plan to buy everything around to build a city park and to manage Johnson Creek better and reduce flooding (and to reduce the homeless population in the woods). They cut down the brush that lined the creek, making the backyard more "open", and not in the best way.

Thos trees are leaning farther and farther across the creek; one of them at least is going to fall this winter. The creek has been undermining them – not the first time. In years gone by the creek had more trees in it. Some have been cut out by various people and the rest have been carried away from here.

Don’t you just hate it when the city does something to “improve” the area, but just f*cks it up instead? Great shots! 🙂 Light of heart,
