A little scare…

Leah and the kids are a tad freaked out today. Turns out that Toronado that hit northern Tennessee was less than 20 miles away from my Mom & Dad’s house. I could tell when talking to her on the phone that was she pretty much in the state of shock and it was hard to talk to her. She was non-responsive and pretty much freaked out by what had happened. It’s the same storm that was responsible for killing 11 people north of Nashville. I’m just relieved I wasn’t reading the news when I was at work yesterday, cause had I seen that on CNN.com while working, I would have called it a day and immediately went home.

To her, it didn’t seem like anything more than a typical thunder storm, but when the golf ball hail stones started to fall, she had a feeling that something was up. Ethan didn’t wake up at all during the storm and was sleeping through it quite soundly, that was until Leah had to wake him up when the alarm went off. You see, Mom and Dad pay a crapload of dough to get an alarm system that gives instand weather updates as they come into the main weather offices in their tri-state area. So when the funnel touched the ground, the alarm was going beserk and warning them that a twister was very, very close. With that, Mom and Leah took the kids into one of the more secure closets and waited in there until the alarm said that the storm had settled and the funnel was gone. I can only imagine how scary that is. I mean the funnel was so close that she probably could have gone outside and seen it if she looked hard enough.

Dad was at work when the storm hit and because of damage in the area, it took him forever to get home. But I think everyone is doing all right and the worst if it is all over. I don’t think I’m going to hear Leah complain about the weather here on the island for a very, very long time. Snow may be a bitch, but it’s not going to flatten your home or toss your roof away. I’m just glad that everyone is all right and that the house wasn’t hit by the twister. She got upset at me when I was talking to her yesterday cause I hadn’t called the last two days before. While I understand her frustration, she doesn’t realize that sometimes I get home late and don’t want to call cause I’m afraid I’ll wake the kids, and that would piss her off too. Usually I wait for her to call me cause I know when she calls that it’s okay to talk for a while. At this point, she never understood that and I never really pushed the issue. But when it was all said and done, she understood and realized that I’m not going to be in all the time.

She knows I have a few friends, and they are actually going out of their way to invite me out more often, afraid that I’m going to be lonely in the house without anyone there. It’s sweet of them and I try to take them up on their offers, but I’ve been spending a lot of time at work and at the gym… so that has been a bit difficult. I know I should call more often, but it seems like whenever I do call I’m just bugging them and that kinda bums me out and I don’t want to call back again. After yesterday though, I’ll make a better effort to keep in touch, and hopefully things will get better for them down south….

So that’s how Friday went, how is everyone enjoying their weekend?

Enjoying it enough…making bagel chips and finishing a book!

Is the towns tornado alarm not good enough for the old folks? We had hail here too yesterday, and a few tornadoes. It’s crazy, we hit 74 yesterday, then the storms came in and the wind never quit blowing, It didnt even hit 50 today.

Once I was afraid of tornados…and then I moved to Missouri, right in the tornado belt, heh. We have tornado alarms set up around the city, so if you live inside the city limits, you will definitely know of one in the area. Most houses in the area have basements for protection…usually the only people who get hurt are those in mobile homes and those driving where the tornado hurts. :/ I’m glad

your family survived without a scratch! Since they hid out in a closet, away from windows and such, chances are they were safe. Must’ve been a nasty one, killing 11 people… Last week, 3 people in my city died in one, but that’s nothing compared to 11… Very unusual.
