A long, overdue update…
Things have been all right here, considering, but I have a lot of updates to do so I’ll get right to it:
I’m going to start of with an update on my quest to get fit. I’ve only been to the gym two times since signing up over a week ago. I’m not happy about that but I had little choice in the matter. I was walking to work one day last week, and I slipped on a patch of ice/slush and took a hard fall. I landed on my arm and leg and both have been aching every since. I want to go back to the gym and keep working out, but I can’t risk an even worse injury by rushing back while I’m still sore. I’m lucky I didn’t break anything when I fell, so I’m taking things easy. I willing to wait a few days to prevent further injury. It’s the idea that I’d rather take a few days off than hurt myself further and have to stay away from the gym for months instead of days. I’ll have to be patient but I’ll slowly ease back in, doing cardio first and then moving onto weights.
On Sunday past I took both Jonathan and Ethan to a concert for kids. Playhouse Disney is on tour and they booked four shows at my local arena, and the kids loved the show. It was a combined performance of various shows (Tiger & Pooh, Handy Manny, Little Einsteins and Mickey Mouse’s Clubhouse) and I could tell the kids in the arena all got into it. Regardless of how popular the other shows were, it was amazed to see that the classics like Mickey and Minnie Mouse were the biggest pops of the night when the first came on stage. After all this time, they are still the real deal… which I found very facinating. Both boys had a lot of fun, and when I get time, I will be posting pictures!
Another great thing about last weekend’s concert was who I was going with to the show. When I got my massive work bonus last month, I purchased six tickets to see the Disney concert, and I gave two of them away as a Christmas gift for my sister-in-law, and my 3 year old niece, Emma. My little niece was beside herself duirng the show and was singing, dancing and fully into participating throughout the show. I was happy to see her having such a good time and most of all it was nice to see Ethan and Jon acutally get to spend some time and enjoy a show with the only cousin they have on my side of the family. Ditto for my neice too as my boys are her only cousins, period. I’m glad her mom and I are on much better terms cause to not let our kids have these moments hurt them and that was never something any of us ever wanted to do. Ethan really likes his cousin and wants to spend more time with her, and I’m going to go out of my way to make sure everyone has more family in their life… cause you can never have too much of that.
Speaking of having fun on your time off, I was planning to use my next bonus to try to book a vacation to an island for Leah and I… but I underestimated the mark up of the spring break. Prices triple and are way beyond my means. So I’m going to have to pick an alternate for the trip. I’m thinking of booking a nice hotel in Toronto and taking Leah there for a few days. We’ll hit the Eaton Centre and do a lot of shopping, hit a few nice places to eat and Leah has always wanted to see the Hockey Hall of Fame and have a pic taken with the Stanley cup. At night, I’m thinking of taking Leah out to a show or two of the broadway variety. Toss in a visit to the Royal Ontario Museum for the King Tut exhibit, and I think that would be a very cool week. I am also going to try to secure some hockey tickets as well… that would be very cool if we could check out a Leaf game at the ACC. So that’s the plan for the spring break, which I’ve already gotten approved off by my bosses. So even if I can’t get out of the country, Leah and I will make an effort to have some time with the kids and some quality time just the two of us.
After taking most of December and half of January off from writing very much at all… I’ve slowly started to scribble a bit and get back into the swing of things. This is very typical of post Nano-writing as usualy I write so much in the month of November, my brain needs to take a break for at least a month, if not longer from writing. But I’m starting to feel that itch again and I’m starting to put something down on paper. I’m also starting to pick last year’s Nano back up and start to work on that again. I’m in the middle of chapter 18 of 30… and if I can get into a good groove again either this month or next month, I’d like to have it finished and ready for its first proof readers by the end of March. I’m eager to give Leah a chance to read it because she’s the reason why I wrote it in the first place, to make a book that she would be interested in reading since her favorite genre of books is the chick lit section. I will post updates on all book activity as it happens. The search for an agent continues but no luck so far…
But that’s it from Steel City. I’m doing all right at home and at work, and I plan to keep chugging along and make progress in all activities and projects I have running. I apolotize for taking so long to post this update, but I hope it finds everyone doing well. I will be back to post again very, very soon… so until then, take care!
Peter
Get well…I actually used the workout room at the college, walking on the treadmill. It’s free and I have time between classes. I’m trying to lose 10lbs. You wouldn’t think that would be hard, but it is!
