Blogathon # 4: Holy Sports Scandals!

Time Posted: 10:29am EST

There’s been some pretty major scandals going around the sporting world these days. Some are worse than others, and one is just outright sick. Here in a nutshell is what’s fucked up in the sports world:

In baseball, one of the biggest cheaters in the sport’s history is about to overtake a long holding record. I’ve posted many entries about this cheater, and am furious that the commish didn’t have the balls to kick this bum out at the start of this season. Many commishes of baseball past have banned people for less, and with less evidence than what we have present. He’s a disgrace and I don’t blame Hank Aaron for refusing to show up. I wouldn’t either if I was in his place. We’ll have to wait 5-8 years for A-Rod to show up and mash the record. This kid is one homer away from 500 and he’s only 32! He’s also clean, so when he breaks the record, then you’ll see a real celebration!

If you thought that was bad, the NBA is really up the creek with their most recent scandal. The National Basketball Association is under fire because one of their referees has been busted for gambling on games that he was officiating! Now they are suspecting that he was involved in a conspiracy to shave points. The NBA has tried their best to say this one referee is an isolated incident and that now that he’s gone, no one should worry. Wishful thinking, because now the FBI is involved and will likely audit every referee in the league and shake things up to see if any others fall out. This is a nasty scandal for the NBA, their worst I think.

The NFL is without their share. They’ve had players who are indicted in shootings, bar fights, and even running a dogfighting ring! One of the NFL’s most primere quarterbacks, Michael Vick, has been indicted of being a part of and even the money man behind a gigantic dog fighting racket! People are completely aghast at the details that are coming out of this case. Dogs are being abused and used for fighting, and when one dogs lose, word going around is they were executed by hanging for losing! Sick, sick, sick… and this is why the news is covering this scandal more than the other two posted above. Vick is a great and very talented quarterback, but if this charge sticks… I really hope he serves a few years. Given the state that he’s being charged in (Georgia) odds are good that just might happen.

Of the three scandals, I happen to think the NBA is the most serious. Game fixing is nasty, and causing the whole league to lose face and legitimacy. While the Vick scandal is sick (many signs outside the courthouse from protesters said ‘Vick is Sick’.. very cute) one reason why people are more outraged from this one is cause of the animals involved. People can be very sensitive about animals, and I guess this just really upset a lot of people. So by looking at these three scandals, you can really see that thinks are really messed up in the world of Sports. I’m sure there are many other examples to choose from, but these are the ones that are standing out right about now.

That’s it for now… see you in 30!

I really don’t want to see Bonds break the record. But in all fairness Alex Rodriguez will break it eventually anyway. Then I can cheer.

I’m not a big sports fan, but this is all just… wrong. Cheating at a professional level… and I was unaware of Vick being a part of a dog fighting racket. That’s so disturbing… but on with the writing!

In all seriousness, Vick hasn’t accomplished shit in his career. His only real accomplishment has been being the first QB to rush for 1,000 yards. He throws a lot of interceptions and gets sacked surprisingly a lot.

I loathe Bonds at least as much as you do. But I’m sorry, I can’t advocate kicking him out of baseball until he tests positive for steroids. Bearing in mind that steroids wasn’t against baseball rules until a few years ago. Trust me, I hope they catch the SOB. But I’m not going to blast Selig (who I also have contempt for) for not doing this. If they kick Bonds out on suspicion, rumor and innuendo

then MLB is begging for a lawsuit, and rightly so. We do have innocent until proven guilty in this country. You’re the first one to scream when Bush tries to take this away in Gitmo and rightly so. I’ll have to content myself with advocating that he not be inducted into the Hall of Fame, which is by definition a subjective decision.

There’s 2 more scandals in the NFL. Pacman Jones, and another guy just applied for a reinstatement of sorts; they wanted to go to training camp, even though they are ion extended suspensions. I know that makes no sense, but that stuff was acceptable before. Not anymore; both players were summarily denied by the comissioner. Gotta love a hard line stance. Take away their livelihodd and maybe the next guys will think about what they are doing. Maybe, but not likely

Also I agree with the above noter about Vick. Like they were playoff bound with him? Not likely. He runs too much; he is like Kordell Stewart. The teams pays other guys to run, do you own job and stop trying to take away from others just to fufill your ego.

You forgot packman jones. He is a really sore spot with our family, since one of our family memebers is in a wheelchair because of him
