Sunday morning with Cookies and Paddington…
I haven’t had much energy to write much over the last while, but I’ve got a moment here so I’d thought it would be a good time to spit out an entry. Ethan is awake, but is very distracted at the moment. He’s eating an arrowroot cookie and his morning juice. He’s also watching his favorite Paddington Bear video. I purchased 4 new videos off of Ebay a month ago and picked them up while on Vacation cause I had them shipped to my parent’s house. Usually when seller will only sell items within the US, I use Mom & Dad’s address so that I can’t be shut out of a good sale. As I said above, I got 4 of the old Paddington Bear videos for $5 US. And these are the old 80’s Paddginton videos, with the soft teddy bear… not the crappy animated bear. Ethan loves the videos, and the don’t make shows that cool anymore, so I’m glad the little guy loves them. Here’s hoping that the other kid gets a kick out of them too. The next time I hit Ebay, I’m gonna have to find a Paddington stuff toy for Ethan. I think he would nuts over a gift like that.
I’ve been getting a few things online, and most of the time I try to buy one thing a month via ebay… either for myself or Ethan. Last month I got a new book for myself, something I’ve been dying to read. Not only did I get a hardcover copy of it but its also autographed by the author, which made it a kickass purchase for ten british pounds, including shipping. I also purchased books for Ethan online as well. I had recently bought 30 different Mr. Men books for the little guy. He loves it when I read those books to him, so I thought it would be nice to have a crapload of them around to read to him. He loves to have stories read to him, and I love reading them to him. Usually every day, there is always a moment when Ethan will find a book and he’ll walk up to me with it and place the book on my lap. Unless I’ve very busy (which is hardly ever) I’ll pick the little guy up and read the book with him. How can one say no to a kid that prefers to read a book? I can’t wait till he gets older and I can share my Gordon Korman and Harry Potter books with him. Those are the books I’m really looking forward to reading to him.
Yesterday, one of Leah’s friend Donna came by to visit. She was in town because her and her daughter Alyssa (only two months older than Ethan) were flying out of town today to visit her sister in another province. It was fun to watch Ethan interact with Alyssa. Usually whenever Leah’s friend is in town, we always get together so that they can have a chance to interact. Ethan was a little better behaved than the last time they all came by to visit. He was a little rough and possessive of his own things, but this time it was okay with sharing and did his own thing rather than worried about what Alyssa was doing. Being at daycare and interacting with other kids had made a profound difference, as he’s more used to be around other kids. He sat at the table for the first time and ate a meal with Alyssa. Donna has picked up two happy meals from Rotton Ronnie’s (McDonald’s) and they had fries and nuggets to munch on. I was a little worried about Ethan eating at the table, but it wasn’t too bad cause he only tried to climb on the table twice.
One thing that Donna’s husband was very impressed with was Ethan’s attention span. Their Daughter can’t sit still for more than a few seconds at a time without dashing off for something else to play with where Ethan will sit still and watch whole TV shows or wait until someone is finished reading a whole book before running off to do something else. I hadn’t really noticed how focused Ethan can be sometimes, but I got an idea of how short Alyssa’s attention span was and it gave a moment to finally appreciate what a good boy Ethan has been when it came to concentrating on stuff. It will make it much easier to teach him stuff as he gets older. Like right now Ethan is sitting in his blue foam chair while he watches Paddington. He’ll occassionally get up but sit back down for most of the show until its finished. It’s quite cool when you stand back and look at it.
So today is more of a downer day for Leah and I. Time to relax, maybe do a few loads of laundry but spend the rest of the day vegging out and taking care of the boy. Leah is still sleeping, and deserves to. She worked yesterday morning, which means she’s worked six days in a row. She deserves to sleep in this morninng after working so hard this week. Leah had a chance to see the doctor this week, and found out that her uterus is a little big for someone who is 14 weeks into the pregnancy. So either her due date is wrong, or there’s more than one bun in the oven. There are twins in Leah’s family but there are none in mine. It would be cool to have two, especially if they were identical, but we’ll find out for sure on Aug 1st when she has her ultrasound. We’ll find out for sure then how many are in there, but if there is more than one we have enough names picked out to cover them all. And with that, I’d like to thank everyone for offering their advice on the names I posted in the last entry. To be honest, they were placed in order of preference… which means Jonathan and Samantha are the leading names right now. But there’s a lot of time between now and Decemeber, so that might change.
So its been a bit of a lazy weekend, but I’ve got the weekend off so I didn’t have to worry about work. So its been nice being able to spend a lot of time with Ethan which I don’t get to do too often. But I have to run now, I’m gonna whip something up for Ethan to have for breakfast. I hope everyone has a great weekend and I’ll be around…

You know, I just don’t like Spielberg. Not to look down on you because you do. I just think he’s smarmy and overly sentimental and not very grounded in the real world. And I think most of his movies are silly.

I’m finally getting something online! It’ll be a “Can’t Dance” shirt from one of my favorite webcomics. Later.
