The Post Episode III Report…
Wednesday was a long day, but it was a fun day that I think will make for an interesting entry…
After Ethan left for daycare at 9am, I really didn’t have anything to do around the house, so I thought it would be fun to leave for the mall right then and there. I thought it would be cool to make an effort to be the first one in line. I packed a lunch, a 2 litre bottle of ginger ale, two pillows and a blanket and took off for the mall. Not only was there a line already there, I was the seventh person to get in line for good seats. I didn’t really mind as I put out my blanket and laid down on the pillows and took a nap for the first few hours in line. By the time I finished my nap, seven people in line had swelled to twenty, and we all just hung out and talked and chatted. There was a really nice guy named Lee who was there dressed as Anakin Skywalker. It was really nice costume, and it had taken him a long time to make just for this event. Talking to people and hanging out is what makes the time fly when waiting in line.
Then around 1pm someone showed up with a RISK board, and that’s when things got very interesting. I can never turn down a game of world domination, and we had a full six players on the board which always makes for a kickass game. Three of the players were complete amateurs, one of them actually cut deals and then backstabbed people at will just for laughs, but that was all right with me cause I kepy my distance and grew strength as they fought one another. Working on territory at a time, I slowy took all of North America and it was pretty secure, but the dick who was trying to take Europe (a real player unlike the others) made a huge mistake. He traded cards in for a fresh batch of 15 armies, but instead of using them to secure the rest of europe and get his own continent… he used those armies to invade Greenland and bust up my continent and ruin my chance to build more troops. He had a chance to secure his own part of the map, he decided to piss on my plans. I was going to use the extra troops in the next round and attack Asia via Alaska, so I had no plans to piss on his parade, until he pissed all over mine.
There’s nothing that pisses me off more than someone who breaks up someone’s territory, just for the hell of it and to make things tougher for ya. Well, when it came to my turn… I took full advantage of it and turned in some cards of my own, slapping down an extra 20 armies onto the board. Not only did I retake Greenland, but I invaded and conquered Iceland and the UK and secured them with about seven to eight armies a piece. Not only did it shatter his hopes of securing Europe, something he could have done had he left my territory alone, but it practically took him out of the game. I elimated his army from the board two turns later… and I hope he learned a lesson. About five hours into the game, I turned in cards again and dropped 40 armies onto the board, eliminated two more players and then dropped again cause I had over seven cards. With 50 more armied to toss down onto the map, the other two player left (two of the amateurs, cause I attacked and eliminated the good ones left) surrendered and ended the game after six hours, which killed a lot of time for us. It was a good game, but it was over after two hours when they let me keep North America and the extra five armies per round.
So after the game was over, a friend kept my place in line and let me stretch my legs and get something to eat at Dairy queen. I had a Mushroom Swiss Grillburger combo, and that really hit the spot. After that the last four hours before the move started just crawled, and just when you thought things couldn’t get worse, the theatre got everyone to stand up the last 90 minutes so the line wouldn’t block stores outside the theatre in the mall. So after sitting in line for over 13 hours, we all had to stand for almost the last two, and were a rather exhausted bunch by the time we walked into the theatre to get our seats. But thanks to my patience, I was able to stake my claim and grab some of the best seats in the house of myself and my friends who were about two hundered people behind me cause they got into line after they finished work cause they couldn’t get the day off.
As you could read from the previous entry, the movie was good at best. By far the best prequel, but no where near the best movie of the Star Wars film franchise. Yet it was fun to watch the movie with friends, and I got to spit out a very early review which I did submit to the website that I write for, and hopefully it will be posted sooner than later. So that was my day at the mall. It was a fun day, but I’m not going to do that again anytime soon. I’m just thankful that Lucas isn’t making anymore films. And while I am sure there might be a midnight showing for Batman Begins, I might pass on it and just hit a matinee later that weekend. I think I’ve had my fill of lineups for now…
