Wake me up when September ends…

It’s been a minute, eh?

I keep promising everyone, and even myself, that I would keep updating here and then a month or so passes and 2025 is just flying on by. So, here I am with yet another end of a month update. I’m doing alright health wise (knock on wood), and the kids are faring well. Katherine started Grade 1 this month and appears to be doing well after a little bit of a rough start. Emma and Charlotte are in daycare full time now, and Owen is slowly creeping up towards is first birthday which will be here in a little over two months!

Usually around this time of month, I would start prepping for Nanowrimo, also known as National Novel Writing Month, but it’s not happening. From what I’m seeing, it appears that the website has been shut down and the event is not happening this year for the first time in 25 years. The site shut down several months ago as the company that runs the event went tits up. The site had been horribly mismanaged so this isn’t very surprising, but I am to say the least very, very disappointed. I will still spend the month of November working on a novel, as I have a detective sequel that is behind schedule and i will use that creative absence to finish up that project.

Since October is a day away, it also means that I have a birthday coming up. On the 28th of next month… I have a special birthday coming up as I am approaching the half a century mark. That’s right, I turn 50 this year! Hard to believe because when I started this diary oh so long ago back in June of 2000, I was only 24 years old and writing how I was about to turn 25. That means I’ve been writing on this site/diary for half my life. How crazy is that, eh? I lot has happened in all that time as I now have six kids, both my parents have passed on, and Donald Trump is the president… again! It’s been a wild ride here on OD, and I for one hope that I’ll be around for at least another 25 years, and hopefully during that time I’ll try to update everyone here a little more often.

I’ve also been watching some amazing (and some not so amazing) movies over the last few months. Here is what I’ve been watching over the last few months at my local theatre:

  • Superman (5/5)
  • Fantastic Four: First Steps (3/5)
  • The Life of Chuck (5/5)
  • Nobody 2 (3/5)
  • Bring Her Back (1/5)
  • The Naked Gun (1/5)
  • Weapons (5/5)
  • The Roses (3/5)
  • The Long Walk (3/5)
  • Highest 2 Lowest (4/5)
  • A Big Bold Beautiful Journey (4/5)
  • One Battle After Another (5/5)

I just saw “One Battle After Another” and it was magnificent. It’s Paul Thomas Anderson’s best film in a while, but I still think Magnolia is his best film. This one is going to land him a ton of Oscar nods, and possible a handful of wins too. Yeah, it was that fucking good. I am tempted to check it out again later today as it’s half price Tuesday. Superman was easily the best movie of the summer, as the kids loved seeing it too. James Gunn got his DC Universe off to a great started and delivered the best superhero film of the year. Weapons was hands down the best suspense/horror of the year, and that’s going to get some love come awards season too.

So, in a nutshell that’s what I’ve been up to the last few months. Watching the kiddos, watching movies, and writing up a ton of stuff. I am going to promise to update here more often, and at least a few more times before I turn the half century mark. With no Nano coming up to prep for, both October and November will have more time for writing so now I have no excuses.

Until then ladies and gents, take care!

Peter

Oh wow, I’m surprised that Nanowrimo isn’t happening at ALL this year. Yeah, last year was a disaster (I didn’t do it last year), but I’m a little surprised they gave up completely. Sarah Cannon has a  Heart Breathings Youtube channel and she hosts a “Rough Draft Novel Writing Month” in November now to replace Nano. She has a website set up for it where writers can register.
