Lobsters and a monster…

For the past 24 hours I’ve been only about an hour away from something that inspires within me intense (and somewhat morbid) curiosity. The object of my fascination and existential dread lies to the north east of me along Route 1. In this part of Maine, Route 1 is only a two lane road that hugs the coast, not unlike its west coast counterpart, the Pacific Coast Highway. Route 1 passes thru charming little towns interspersed with scenic rural areas, and based upon what I’ve been told, it becomes even more scenic further north. In fact, if I look out one of the windows in our cottage room, the road that leads to the monster of my nightmares is right there… Today, and also tomorrow, I will continue to enjoy the steamed lobster and other treats of this festival. And then tomorrow evening my husband and I will make our way up into the monster’s territory. On our eleven hour drive to the present location we crossed paths with a few major monster bridges, and I dutifully filmed them as we drove over. Friday will be the day that I will shoot footage and stills of the great and terrible monster of the north in all its sinister glory. Not only that, but I will ascend its west tower to look upon the surrounding landscape – and back at the monster itself. There on the ground, not far from its dreadful form is a piece of its “spine” that was left over from its construction. It looks as though I might be able to walk right up to it and touch it…
