Ten commandments/religious article.

It has been said by some scholars that the Ten commandments and best read as a treaty. As a treaty writeen around the same time period.Rather then a list of laws, the commandments are in view, actually as an agreement between God and his people.(the Hebrews)

A number of things about the Commandments get put in better perspective if we consider this view.

The other day when I was doing laundry at work I overheard this commercial on the radio station. It was sort of a spoof of Judge Judy. There was a judge and there was the bad guy.He was giving his testimony on how he did not see any problem with killing and stealing because there was no sign to say not to. She(the judge) Informs him there is and it is in the bible. That sort of application follows what I am saying nicely.

(thinks the commercial was for a church near by but I am not sure

..I just found the basis of it mildly entertaining)

The creation of the Ten Commandments as a type of treay is very sensible, when we remember that even in the bibical sense the laws given to Israel are described as *covenent* between God and Israel.

What does covenant mean?A binding agreement; a compact. See Synonyms at bargain. Law. A formal sealed agreement or contract. A suit to recover damages for violation of such a contract. In the Bible, God’s promise to the human race.

so. Now that we know what covenant means.

The relationship between god and the Jews is thus as much as personal as legal.

Why WoulD God do it like this? Maybe because doing it like this was how he could accurately get thier attention. Maybe that is how things were done in that time.

How would God have to go about and get your attention?

Would you hear him if he asked you to go on a mountian and write some laws for your fellow peers and family?

Could you do it?

Can you name all of the ten commandments..Lets find out..No cheating. Name them all without looking them up. I will figure out a prize for the winner.

No looking.

I read something once (I think it was in one of Stephen King’s books) that you can pretty much boil all of them down to “Thou Shalt Not Steal”. Seemed like an interesting point to me at the time.
