Vegas with Sinatra

Writing today from the couch of our room at Tahiti Village.  Scotty wanted to spend his birthday this year in Vegas and planned the whole trip for just the two of us.  The kids are all with his folks — well, the older three are at Heroic Youth, a fun little LARP-ing 3 day camp, but that’s where they’ll be on their off-hours.  Scott never did anything big when he hit 40 during Covid a couple of years ago, so a few months ago he decided to finally have the bash on which he’d missed out.

So, here I sit on the couch, snuggled in a blanket to provide more warmth than last night’s lingerie, while he takes a work call to help someone retrieve data for California.  Great trip so far.  We stopped to do a session at the Cedar City temple, ate dinner at Rusty’s, took pictures outside the Best Western that was, and spent the night in St. George.  Yesterday — his actual birthday — I had a 3 hour call for a class I’m teaching with Jami and Nancy, so after that we finally headed into Vegas and did a fancy schmancy lunch buffet and another temple session in the Vegas temple.

We’d been hoping to be in the 4 pm session for his SR (solar return) time, but got too distracted by the food and missed it.  We were both a little bummed but took it in good spirits, and he spent his SR moment driving up to the temple.  We were the witness couple both at the Bountiful temple for my endowaversiary, and yesterday for his birthday.  Afterwards, the temple officiator thanked us for helping.  I told him I had an arrangement with the Lord where I asked to be a witness couple as many times as possible because I struggled with losing the tactile part of the ceremony.  I think it took him a little aback, but he knew he’d been inspired to choose us.

Today we have to do a tour of the facility and tell them we don’t want a timeshare — they get their pound of flesh paid by 2 hours of our time and misery (!) as we endure probable high-pressures sales, after which we are going to check out the lazy river and eventually dine at some cute little Italian place (The Tuscany?) where we’ll do dinner and a Rat Pack tribute show.  Yay for fun!

There.  Is that enough of a “news” update?
