I was thinking hard of what I truly value right now, and I was thinking of who I am today. I have really been thru a lot in the last 50 plus years and I realized what I truly value right now. That is me being able to hear well with my Cochlear Implants. I truly value the fact that I can take advantage of hearing and talking too, As I have the stories of what happened to me when I was born and when I was given up for adoption due to the severity of my life when I was born. I was not supposed to have survived as I was born with a heart condition and my deafness was caused due to my biological mom being only 13 years old of age when I was born. SO I was given up a few days after I was born and I lived in the hospital the first year of my life due to my heart. I had several heart surgeries. I won’t go into that details but I only want to share of my life of being able to hear.

I was unfortunate to have been given to a family who spent have their time being with me from age 3 months to 11 months in the hospital caring for me and once I was realized I was taken to their home and my mom started the procedure to start adoption and once I got to the age of 18 months old that is when they actually feared I was not hearing anything so they had me tested and it was finally confirmed that I was DEAF!! My mom was lucky to have some friends who knew what she could do to get my into programs for the deaf and got me into hearing aids by the time I was 3 years old. I wore regular hearing aids until I was a candidate for Cochlear Implants in  November 2004.  I had the surgery 2 days before Thanksgiving. At that time I was married and was in a very bad abusive marriage. Four days after I got my cochlear Implants done I literally almost died again due to my ex husband hitting me in the head and was in coma for a few days. I came out of it and his family had my boys and my parents were not notified of my situation, I had the DR call my parents and tell them where I was and to get down to TEXAS to get my boys and get me out of TEXAS. I was able to confirm with the police that I was hit by my ex. MY ex at that time LIED to them that I fell and hit the fireplace. SO he was put in JAIL and I was able to get out of the hospital and get my boys and pack up all my stuff and moved to Colorado.
HERE IS WHAT I mostly value…ONCE I was in my old bedroom in my dads home I was sitting on my bed and hearing something that I had never heard was when I asked my Son Chef, What was it that I was hearing. HE literally couldn’t believe I had never heard the TICK TOCK of the clock that was in my old bedroom. I cried and that is when I was blessed to be able to hear all the new sounds from that day on. LIKE bird chirping, crickets, heater being on. Just any little things we all think its annoying but I value the sounds every day of my life!

The only thing that really gets to me is the fact when its really windy, yes that will BOTHER me a lot. Cuz it hurts my ears!

I had my second Cochlear Implants done in  May 2007, I was activated the next day as I was able to have it done and the days after that my mom and sister took  me to go see the movie MAMA MIA! OMG wow that was so amazing experience!

I value hearing every day~
