Big News….and some sad news, too.
So I’ve been very busy, again. I’m loving this active lifestyle I’ve taken the last couple of weeks. So this is the first time I’ve had the chance to sit down and write and let you guys know what’s been going on! Two days ago, I was on Facebook when I stumbled across something in my feed. There was company looking for typists. Me, being a typist at 90 words per minute, I figured, lete me just see what this is about. It turned out to be for transcriptionists. I very nearly closed the site out right then and there. But something told me to keep exploring and see what happens.
The site had me take a grammar test as well as a transcription test. That’s where I knew things were gonna be different. Instead of asking me to pay upfront to have equipment sent to me, they have integrated tools right into the website. No fees for setting up, no equipment to buy, and it’s all done using keyboard shortcuts. These are all things that I could very agreeable to. (Better to get started for free, anyway.)
So I applied, and waited. I also sent the link to my friend Lissa because she is like me in that she can’t seem to find a job tha accomodates all of her issues outside of the home, and unlike myself, she doesn’t qualify for Disability through Social Security. She also took the test and applied. She heard back almost immediately. She didn’t get in. Then she found out that only 12% of people who apply actually get in. That made me very nervous.
I didn’t hear back the next day, either. I was beginning to worry. This was something I really wanted. It was something I could do, and it was something Mom and Dad thought would be good for me. It would give me extra income, and it would allow me not to feel like I’m constantly on the verge of bankruptcy every month. -sigh-
Yesterday, as we were pulling into Embassy Crossing shopping center for Rock Painting at the Humana Center, I just happened to hear an email alert on my phone and I checked it. I had made it! Rev had chosen me to be a transcriptionist! Now the only thing is, I gave them Mom’s PayPal email because I wanted to make sure that Social Security couldn’t track my earnings. I know this seems underhanded but they screwed me over at least twice before the minute I started working outside the home (both times didn’t last more than 2 months because as it turns out my body can’t handle the stress of outside work), and it also took me forever to get my checks again because of an error on their end, not mine. I just don’t feel like being screwed over again. But hey, this is something i can do and be able to shop online the way I like to all the time. 🙂
So I spent most of last night working on the site, and trying to learn the ropes and perfecting my transcripts. By the end of the night, my metrics were pretty high, but I needed to improve my accuracy. I lost my paid training projects, but I do have others that I am going to work on today after coloring since I will have a 2 hour gap between that and Maker Space crafting. Excited to see what’s going on there.
On the flip side of the coin. I found out last night that Amu, my adopted kitten (now cat) and runt of the litter up in New York passed away from cancer. I knew it was coming. We’d just been hoping she’d hold out until Lexi could be up there with her. But apparently, Guy (Lexi’s dad) came home to find her dead. 🙁 I’m really sad. Not as sad as when my boy Murphy died, but just…could Cancer please stop taking away the people and pets I love, please? I know I haven’t been in New York for years, but Jesus. She was my first feral that I tamed. I guess she a good 8 or 9 years of life, but still. Amu, Mommy never forgot you, and I never will. Rest in peace, sweet princess kitty.
90 words a minute? wow I am lucky if I can do 23 words a minute….but then that is only from one year of typing at high school.
@jaythesmartone Haha. It took me a year and a half of vocational school for the disabled to get to 90WPM. As it turns out, it’s not easy to type 90 words per minute when you’re first starting out in transcribing. LOL.
