Blogathon # 3: Doing it for the hounds…

This year is a special one for me concerning the blogathon. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had a soft spot for dogs. I had some great dogs throughout my childhood, and have in the past participated in events that rasied money for pet charities such as the SPCA and of course today’s charity, the Greyhound Protection League.

Greyhounds are in fact very beautiful animals, and I’ve resisted the temptation to adopt one for a while now. I want to wait until the kids are a little older before bringing in a big dog like that. This is not the first charity event I have particiated in to raise money for Greyhounds. Back on the island there was a Greyhound Picnic Ethan and I attended two years ago. It was a lot of fun, and Ethan spent most of the day playing with the dogs, when he wasn’t hiding from them behind me. I’ve always wanted to do more after that day, which is what led me to write this year for this amazing charity.

The Greyhound Protection League is a volunteer foundation that is dedicated to saving and preventing the abuse and exploitation of Greyhounds used in the racing industry. Many are treated very inhumanely. This organization is like a watchdog group of some sorts and relies on donations such as the money we’re raising to keep an eye on things and save the hounds when necessary and find them good homes. A good organization and one that I am excited to write for this year. It’s all for the dogs this time out…

What a bunch of cuties, eh? Like I said before, I’d love to adopt one myself, but I don’t this Leah is ready or are the kids just yet. Maybe one day when we’re ready I’ll free one and give him a good home with the boys. For now this is how I’ll chip in and help out. Thanks to those who have pledged so far, and it’s not too late.
