Blogathon # 7: Prizes and awards

Here’s an interesting question from another favorite:
Have you ever won anything?
This is a good question, and I decided to answer this one first because this is a short list. Physically I was never an exceptional athlete, but when I was young (like 9) my team won the pee-wee city championship. It was a big win, and I had this massive trophy intop of the fireplace for a week or so. My brothers were sooooo jealous of that thing! I participated in a lot of sports, but that is likely the best I ever did.
One of the better events I was good at was Chess. I participated in and placed in a few tournaments, and one year when I was in grade 10… I placed first. Was a very proud day for me to take the tournament, and that day I remember playing many games over the span of 14 hours. Was mentally exhausting but well worth the reward. I remember coming into school two days later on Monday with that medal round my neck. Wasn’t anything earth shattering, but it was big to me.
I guess the only other I can think of was the award I got from the univeristy for their annual poetry competition. One of my poems took third place and I got a big cheque for $200. What I liked most about the day was that I got to attend a wine and cheese lunch and read my poem for the entire English Faculty. That was a great day. Funny thing is I had Mono and was sicker than a dog that day, but I showed up wearing sunglassed and sported a massive beard cause I really wanted to be there for it. The person who took first place didn’t bother to show up…
Those are all I can think of off the top of my head…
See everyone in 30!

I played basketball in 8th grade. I was the only player not to score a point. That’s how bad I was at sports.

I was never the sporty type, either. I did win a lot of awards for JROTC stuff in high school, though.
