Various Things
We had snow and ice on Thursday and Friday so I decided to stay home and do a bit of housecleaning. Well, that was the plan but for some reason I was so tired, I did nothing but read and eat for two days. Today was much better. I went into town to see Fred and stayed with him a couple of hours and then came home. I actually got some stuff into the laundry tonight instead of waiting until tomorrow! Tomorrow I will go buy some food since I am out of pretty well everything.
Long time readers will know how I think about things before I do them. For me, the thinking is the first step in doing! Well, I am back to thinking about art, back to reading about projects and thinking about what I can do. I haven’t done anything creative since last October when Fred was so ill. October! That is four and a half months I have done nothing creative! I am glad I have got a pair of leather sandals to finish painting. I have the first coats of purple, red and orange down but I know they will need at least one other coat. The same color scheme is used on both sandals but the patterns are different. Yes, I will post pictures if {no, when} they are finished. They are for a good friend who left the color scheme up to me. When she called me the other night, I told her I hoped she liked the colors I have used since they are my favorite colors! Oh, and I am going to put gold on there, too. Of course, the first thing I have to do is tidy up this art room. It looks very messy–well. it is very messy, but it has been left as it was since October not muddled around so I should be able to get it put in order with some focused work! I am feeling very positive about this.
Total change of subject here. You know, Fred is a diabetic, right? And so usually he has to be very careful about cutting his toenails partly because he has a blood thinner as part of his medications and if he cuts too much off, he can bleed a lot, but also because apparently the skin on the diabetics feet is the first place where doctors look for a breakdown of the skin. Well, since he got ill last October, since he has been in hospital twice and in rehab for three months {not counting this stint} NO ONE has cut his toenails despite several requests from him, me, and his daughter. Have you any idea how awful toenails uncut for almost five months look? Apparently there is a qualified person who comes in for one afternoon twice a month! So, a couple of days ago, Fred lowered his bed as low as it would go, sat on the edge, put his feet on the floor, bent forward, and cut his own toenails! Apparently, you would have thought he had decided to take his own appendix out! Anyway, he is pleased with himself and his feet are a lot more comfortable.
Positives for today:
Celery and cream cheese
Getting the laundry in and out of the machines and put away
Hot chocolate which I am going to make for myself in a minute
I had to smile at the appendix part. I’m glad he got the job done. I’ve been wondering if you’ve used those oils and how they’re working out.

You are a hoot…loved that appendix line!!! I know what you mean about not doing anything creative. I can’t remember the last time I did anything and I need to. Maybe once this infection is gone…

Oh, I want to get back to art so badly! I haven’t done any painting or drawing in so long. I’d like to take a class like you did. I don’t do any recreational-creativity anymore, apart from cakes. I do decorate cakes, it’s a new hobby for me, but that’s the limit of it. Poor Fred! Nobody cuts his toenails for him! Terrible! Anyway, I’m glad he managed to get the job done himself.

I feel cross that his nails had beenleft unattended, but very glad thta he 1. felt up to doing it himself 2. was able to do so successfully. That’s awful though. I hope you show us some photos of the sandles, and please give my best to Fred when you see him.

there’s a program coming on ABC at 8pm on march 15th with sean bean in it. i thought of you instantly when i saw that. if i’m wrong on date or time i’ll let you know. well, fred asked for his toenails to be cut and no one did it so he took the initiative and did it himself. good for him. maybe now, they will listen to him when he asks for something. good for you for wanting to get back into art.take care,

Poor Fred. I would be miserable if nobody cut my toenails in 5 months, I would do just what Fred did.

I didn’t know that Fred was diabetic. That adds extra complexity to the situation. Its a relief that he didn’t cut his skin when attempting to trim the nails.

That’s ridiculous – it’s basic nursing care for goodness’ sake! Some feat (sorry couldn’t resist) – I bet you heard all about it! Great you’re getting back into the creative muse again – good sign!

Poor Fred. I remember several instances in the nursing home when residents would ask to be seen by the podiatrist and would go months upon months without being seen. They would beg for us to do it but we just couldn’t. It was terrible. And I am very glad you are getting. Ack into your art. This is wonderful.

Toenails are the one thing they seem to not be able to keep track of in the hosp or rehab. And when they get too long it is a job for a specialist-glad Fred is now one! be well; peace…dan

Hi Patricia. Do you have an address for Fred that I could send him a card/letter? I’d appreciate it when you get the time.. thank you 🙂

Still enjoying the celery, it seems 🙂 I’ve never given it much thought with regards to a civilian hospital, but now that you bring it up, exactly who is supposed to clip a diabetic’s toenails? In the military hospitals I worked in, it was always someone from the podiatry or orthopedic department…
