It Helped Somewhat

I read my textbook until what was 3pm EST. Concentrating on my studies helped me to take my mind off of what I wrote about in my previous entry. The author presented study material regarding clients with disabilities, including physical , developmental, intellectual and mental disabilities. In the next chapter, the author discussed the care of Mothers, Infants and Children. I decided that I had read enough for awhile, long enough to take my mind to another place.

Well, the Fourth of July weekend is upon us. The city held a parade at 10 am, after which, were to have festivities downtown, such as free games and face-painting for children, food and craft booths with items to sell and live entertainment. Tonight there are fireworks at 10pm. I would have liked to have gone to the street fair, but I am not able to walk the distance.

Wednesday, before my daughter’s doctor appointment, she said that she could take me up to Walmart so that I can buy something I need. I hope that she does not forget or changes her mind, because if she is unable to take me, I could ask my youngest daughter.

I do not know what to say about life, except that being among those whom try to make you feel miserable, are totally uncaring or disinterested are not the ways to find happiness. I have decided that I am going to start going to the library to find books to read, after I finish my course. In the meantime, I can take my textbook with me down to the library to read. They also have newspapers, magazines and periodicals there, to read. I remember when Bear and I used to stop in at the library, for a while. Those were good times.

Bear was very good to me when we first got together. He took me out to some very nice restaurants in the downtown area. We also took the bus up on the hill to shop and dine. I used to love getting on the bus with Bear and going for bus rides. I was very happy, back then. True love does not come to you very many times in your lifetime. I was lucky in getting to know Bear. As time went by, well, we started to spend more time at his place in the evenings, as his desire to venture out was not quite what it used to be. I stepped in to help Bear with things that he had difficulty with. Bear soon had an entire care team that helped him to maintain optimal functioning while living independently. I had the support of one very special person, the city’s social services van driver. She took me where I needed to go, and, at the same time, we became practically best friends. She has since retired, after developing health issues of her own. Life has many twists and turns. That is for certain.

I was only fourteen when I met my first love. He was fifteen. We met at a local roller skating rink. He was a freshman in high school. I was still in the eighth grade. It is funny. You never picture a relationship ending, ever, even at that age. One late spring afternoon, he and I were standing up on a hill at a local cemetery. He said, I love….and he said my full name…and I am going to marry her because I love her. It was not long after that, that his parents decided that we were becoming to serious, and they made him break up with me.

I met my next love, at the same place where I met Tryn. His name was Glenn. Glenn came from the poor part of town. He had dropped out of high school. In the spring he and his brother were working at a cemetery, cuttting grass. He would come up to see me. I remember going with Glenn to a local department store, to help Glenn pick out a light blue leisure jacket and pants. Glenn had blonde hair, and he looked so nice in that suit. We were so happy. We dated all summer, then one night, in the fall, he picked me up to take me to a football game. I remember my mother saying that it was going to be the last time that I was going to be allowed to go out with him. After that, we lost contact. I remember having heard in the January of the following year, that Glenn had enlisted in the Navy. I received letters from him. In one letter, he mentioned that he was going to be sent home on a medical discharge. AS a child, he had rheumatic fever, and it affected his heart. He became very ill while in the navy. In his last letter, he told me that he wanted to put a ring on my finger. I was all of sixteen, and my parents would not let me marry at that age. I know to this day, that Glenn loved me. Given his difficult childhood, I always thought that in one way, he thought that I could help him better himself. There was a song out at that time sung by peter Frampton. It was titled “Show Me the Way”. He said that the song reminded him of he and myself. Everything after that is vague. We drifted apart.

Talk about going off on a tangeant.
