July 2020 diary recovery update.
An alt of Vroenis, legacy lifetime member of Opendiary circa whatever it was, I'll go back and update this when I get the chance.
Maybe one day I'll come back and tell my story, which is part of our story, "our" meaning the story of OpenDiary, and the story of Open Diary is the story of people being public on the internet and the formation of it as a public space and behavioural norms. We were there for that, right at the beginning, and at the time we had no idea just how foundational it would be.

Speaking to that, credit is completely unimportant - I don't care about attribution or specific participation, or any sense of prestige for individuals, inclusive of myself. There were a lot of us and what's happening now online is just as important if not more-so. History is as much about the importance of the present as it is about understanding the past, so it's crucial not to de-emphasise current and future generations and their culture by enshrining our roots. I'm not precious about where we've come from, nor do I think everything about it was inherently "good". It's not about that.

If I ever get around to talking about it, we'll talk about it then, but maybe it's better left where it is, or if anyone wants to formally study it because it takes time, dedication and probably remuneration to do it justice, that'd likely be more effective. I have other things to do with my life as probably do most of the community who have moved on. I'm engaged in Twitter, Tumblr and other social media platforms, each with their own strengths and challenges.

No matter what tools we use, we should never forget the most important thing is we as humans are the most important and beautiful thing central to life, and the culture we build is what's important. The tools are only what brings that culture to life. That the culture is alive is what's important. Stay positive, love one another, lift up those who are oppressed around you, fight for justice, give a voice to those who have none.

I don't know if I'll resume writing here on OD - if there are new entries, then you have the answer.

I can feel the days of Open Diary being numbered. It's quite upsetting. Even if it stays standing, the reliability of the servers now seems to be shaky. It was inevitable, I guess. Such a grand old place can only stand for so long until people's needs evolve. I had always perceived Open Diary to&...

My brother and I are curious creatures. There are certainly artists and genres we favour, but if music is good or something is great about it, we'll generally listen to it and be enthusiastic about it. A while ago, he introduced me to Angels & Airwaves with something along the lines of 'Tom D...

I remember sharing a film with a friend in high school. It was Contact. It was the first time I emphasised thinking and feeling instead of just seeing. After he watched it and we discussed it at school, my friend was awkward and then brash about it. So was I. But we still both knew.…

For a cognisant species we are terribly efficient and dehumanising ourselves and others. The rationale for it is a comedy and its non-rational/non-logical nature is inevitable. What is logical though is the dynamic as a whole, beginning with individuals willing to dehumanise themselves first whic...

Advisory/Warning: Do not read this entry. You don't understand the context it's written in and it'll either offend or compel you, neither of which is likely to be good for you. This is going to be more or less stream of consciousness. F5 if you dare. F5 if you remember what that is in context. Save. I live with my parents because I'm bipolar and can't take care of myself. I live with my parents because I can take care of myself but we all love…

Immediately after typing that I considered capitalising it as a title. Then I thought naaaah. There's a thing I do and you should do it. I told Sam about it, one of the million things I've told Sam about and now I'm telling you about it because you're special and I love you. What you…

We're a lucky bunch. Our parents emerged from so much struggle to deliver us opportunity. They also delivered us free time. I think we're undisciplined with free time, or have been. Some of us still are. I think I am at times and I have to improve. I have to improve because being undisciplined wi...
