I wish you all the best

I’m going to break the mold in farewell messages that I’m seeing here: I’m not going to say one bad thing in this final entry. I’m also turning off notes because I’m going to download this diary (again) and sign off from this account for the last time.

I’m sorry to see OpenDiary go. I feel bad for each and every person here who now has to find a new place to express themselves. I am sorry for the people who can only respond to the closure of this site with hate and rage. I am sad for the DiaryMaster, who’s work  has to be removed and given up. Perhaps OpenDiary will return, but I am not hopeful.

I would like to take a moment to thank the DiaryMaster for providing this space for me to express myself for over ten years. I really am thankful, even if I was frustrated at times with how things were or weren’t working. Even if things began to fall apart recently, I think you have to thank him for providing you the space to express your hate for him. He could have just closed the doors one day and we never would have had the chance to say goodbye. If nothing else, you have to give him his due for giving you the chance.

I will remember OpenDiary for the rest of my life. I won’t forget the friends and enemies I made here. The good times and the sad. The triumphs and defeats. I saw them all and wrote them all here.

I suppose I should wrap this up. There’s not much point it taking up people’s time. I’m sure many of you are trying to download your own diaries, making sure you will keep in touch with your friends and adding your support to those who are shouting what they feel from the rooftops.

There are two things I want to say before I go: Be good to yourselves and think before you talk. And, remember that the good of the many outweighs the good of the one or the few. (Something I picked up from Star Trek, but does guide me in life. It’s good advice.)

This is captain_pete signing off for one last time.

Until the next time, space cowboys.
