I’m No Rocky
Last Saturday I went to the gym and did something I haven’t done in a VERY long time. I worked out on the heavy bag. Think boxing.
I’ve been training in martial arts since I was 15 (I’m 200 years old now lol). I’ve competed in tournaments, taught dozens of students and have put in countless hours of training over the years. But as of late, as in the last ten years, I have been backing off on my fight training and focusing on cardio and strength training.
Saturday’s boxing session on the heavy bag was fun. It brought me back to my fight training days. But I’ll tell you, it’s one hell of a workout, especially if you haven’t done that type of a workout in a long time. I was sucking some serious air.
I think I’m going to make pounding the heavy bag my Saturday thing, moving forward. And couple that with some strength training, it will be a good time.
Totally feel you. I did martial arts on an off for years, but got out of practice up until covid, when I started again. It’s good exercise! Wish I’d kept with it a bit better.

I haven’t hit a bag in forever, but considering how fragile I am these days that’s not going to happen again. I’m sticking mainly to swimming, walking and carrying the kiddos. That’s providing more than enough exercise for me right now… Cheers!
@peter_24601 Ironically, I have worked the bag since this entry. My right shoulder, my “bad shoulder”, hasn’t been the same since. It keeps popping out of socket. OUCH.
