I have very little sympathy for drunk drivers. There is a guy here in FL who has had not one, not two, but THREE drunk driving crashes and he killed someone each time. He goes to jail each time, gets out, and does it again. It makes me sick!

I think that their license needs to be revoked (if they’ve killed someone) for at least ten years and there could be jailtime but more likely, community service. There should be parole time if not actual jailtime, and they should not be allowed to drink alcohol for the amount of that time. I do NOT think that they should be jailed “for life.” Many, many people, while young and foolish, do thestupid thing of driving while under the influence. It is exceedingly stupid but they never stop to realize that they actually could KILL someone. I do not believe a person should be in jail for the entire rest of his LIFE, for a stupid mistake made during his youth. I figure, if we want God to give us more than one chance, we have to be willing to give others more than one chance also. The penalties for plain ol’ DUI should be so strict, though, that there is little chance for “repeat offenses.” hugs, Weesprite

They should go to jail for a long long time.

For drivers who kill people because the driver is drunk–I think that they should have very long, extreme public service commitments and weekend detainment in their homes for a certain period of time. I do not believe that drunk drivers should go to jail with hardened criminals ie. rapists, and those that premeditate murder, etc, . Thoguh most of them know that they are dangerouswhile they drive drunk, most of them do not intentionally kill people, however I believe that the sentences should be STIFF and hard punishment. For example, perhaps serving at the zoo for two years, helping to clean up after all the large animals. Or perhaps serving at the hospitals and nursing homes, helping to clean up all the bathrooms, hallways and corridors. They should get hard labor, hard work (if they can medically take it). If they can not take hard work they should be sentenced to talking to inmates about the consequences of drunk driving. They should be sentenced to jails near their home towns and have them give lectures about drunk driving, and have them talk to teens about drunk driving. AND besides all that they should be fined some money.

The drunk drivers should be assigned to the dirtiest jobs there are in their city. If they do not do the job then they should go to jail and do the clearn up routines in the jails. They could clean up all week long when they are not working at their regular job and they could be detained in their homes on fri and saturday night by an electronic bracelet.
