Is there ever a time or scenario where it’s alright to lie? Why or why not?

Absolutely, though it makes me very uncomfortable to claim that.

White lies can be beneficial and necessary. They can help smooth social gears, cheer up somebody who is upset, or fix an otherwise frustrating problem to name a few. Many people lie, sometimes for good reasons, and sometimes for bad reasons. This is normal.

Lying with malicious intent, however, is wrong. For all parties involved. It damages yourself, and the person you tell it to, and then the persons that they tell it to, and so on. It creates a chain built of paper, with that lie – no matter how big or small – dripping down onto it, until one day one of the links simply melts away and everything breaks. There is no point to it, and nobody really benefits in the long run.
