it’s been a minute huh?

california was amazing. we ended up going to both games that week instead of to one because the first one was just that fun. we won both games! i got to meet my main man poko, aka “gael why are you like this.” he’s very tall and very sweet and gives good hugs. we met some friends from his discord too: jackie and nani and a lurker who’s name i don’t remember. it was a blast, we took a dumb selfie and jackie turned it into a cartoon. we also met alex, the fusion superfan, who is like, the actual factual best. also gives good hugs. we ended up in the fusion recap videos from that week, which was hilarious and surreal.

there was this delicious mexican place right down the road from our air bnb and we went for dinner the day we arrived and breakfast the next morning. breakfast burritos and pancakes the size of my head and fresh berries and mexican-style coffee with cinnamon la;ksfj;lfjdsl;kjfa SO GOOD. i even tried their spicy salsa, when i am in general not a salsa person.

michelle was amazing. her partner is so great, her cats are the sweetest, and her home is cool af. they’re going zero waste and it’s ~inspired~ andrew and i a bit. we’re not in a physical space where zero waste stuff is really practical, but we’ve made a couple of changes to try to cut down on the amount of stuff we throw away. michelle was so sweet, earnest and self-assured. after knowing her for half a decade, from the time she was in high school to her being more than a year into her post-grad la life, it was such a pleasure to see her in a good place where she is safe, happy, and growing. seeing people you care about succeed is such a sweet feeling.

andrew and i went to the la brea tar pits and santa monica while we were there- our Tourist Moments. we had soo much fun at the tar pits. we’e such nerds that we had a blast looking at all the fossils. we ended up crashing a tour group that had just started when we got there and it was such a good decision. we learned a lot about how the fossil deposits were created, that direwolves are real things that really existed, and that microfossils are a thing. fossilized bacteria? who knew. we went through the museum after and took a shitzillion pictures and bought a book and a himalayan pink salt lamp in the gift shop because why not, and then walked to a mexican restaurant 20 minutes away and it was SO FUN.  walking seems to be our favorite way to experience cities (and get that sweet sweet pokemon go buddy candy). the food at this restaurant was sooooo good. we had cocktails and the best quesadilla i have ever been fortunate enough to put in my mouth. our uber driver skipped the highway on the way back and took us up in the hills to get back to burbank and it was so calming and lovely.  the next day we went to santa monica and went maximum tourist. we bought beach towels and laid out for a while. andrew managed to last about half an hour in the water when we got there but i only made it like 5 minutes before i tapped out. too cold and too rough!! give me the atlantic any day. i read the first half of good omens again (somehow it has become my go-to beach read??) and only got sunburned a very very little. we walked up and down the pier while we waited for our table at BUBBA GUMP’S (!!) and had a blast. we didn’t go on any rides but we took a lot of selfies. our food was solid and the drinks were good. i got a free souvenir glass with mine, so that’s a thing we have now hahaha. we flew back the next day.

like immediately after we got back we moved and our apartment doesn’t smell like a fucking ashtray anymore!! the move went pretty smoothly all things considered. andrew rolled his ankle and so was out of commission for the last hour and a half or so of moving, the movers took way longer than they thought they were going to need, and they completely removed the hardware that attached the mirror to my dresser, but nothing was damaged and we had all the large furniture placed by the end of the day so i count it a very successful day. it’s been like a month and we have the kitchen completely together, all the books unboxed and on shelves, literally all the clothes have been washed so now nothing smells like smoke, patio furniture has been purchased and delivered, and the cat is comfortable in the space. our remaining list of Things to Do:
• take all the clean clothes and organize the dresser/pair all the socks
• scrub the tub/clean the washer
• unpack the last 4 boxes of stuff for the bedroom
• organize the desk/clean off the kitchen table & coffee table
• hang the rest of the wall art

not a bad list considering we’ve been out of town for half the weekends we’ve lived in the new place and one of those weekends the twins were visiting. we’re hosting pathfinder again FINALLY on wednesday so i hope we have the wall art/living room/dining room stuff done by that time. i’m looking forward to having all our friends over again and also looking forward to anna getting her microwave back hahahaha

we went down to nc before our la trip and talked to bekah, who i went to high school with, and got set up with her- she’s going to photograph our wedding! contract signed and everything. we toured a few venues that same weekend and even though none of them worked out, it was super interesting. we went down a few weekends ago to tour another venue that had promise, but andrew wasn’t into it so we did some searching when we got back and stumbled across a place in winston that mom and sarah went to saturday and we think it’s probably the place. i don’t know if we’re going down this weekend or next weekend but we should have it locked down by mid-august if we like it. maybe once we have the venue we could actually look for a ring bahahahahah. we bought a bunch of wedding magazines so we could make a fucking moodboard because we’re too millennial to be people. maybe i’ll put up a picture when we’re done with it.

andrew’s brothers came to visit two weeks ago and it was hilarious. they’re 12, and obsessed with fortnite. the disappointment when they found out andrew doesn’t play it was HILARIOUS. they watched the fusion playoff game with us and were so impressed with carpe and eqo (as they should be) and were immediately angry about pine even though they think he’s really good. it didn’t help my stress level (or my propensity for swearing) to have them commentating the match but we all had a good time.

like 2 weeks ago, i was watching frickin GAEL stream. we had no mod, he started duoing with BENJAMIN and then someone did something rude in chat and we had to spam it out of chat. after that game ended:
me: hey poko we need a mod! can you call one?
him: okay, you mod now.
me (to myself): hahah what a funny joke.
a minute later:
me: (types something)
vrequil: YOU’RE A MOD NOW!!!
me: i’m a what now???

my life is weird af

the fusion boys went to grand finals in playoffs after coming in as 6th seed- they beat boston AND new york, and so ended up in nyc playing the barclay’s center last weekend. after the nyxl victory we discussed driving to philly for a watch party, but then realized all the people we were excited to see were going to nyc. we were bummed for like a second, because the fusion team somehow managed to organize last minute free (to us) charter buses to nyc from philly, and then we found tickets, and so we took an impromptu trip to nyc last weekend hahahahaha. we found a cheap air bnb half an hour from barclay’s and rode the free bus both ways and had a blast even though the boys didn’t win finals. i got to meet all my discord friends- mando, mari, sindy, jamie, litar, raven, gabby, princess, nana, everkey, gerwaldo, and alex again (of course)! we had brunch on saturday morning and got to hang out with Chef Heidi, the MVP herself. there were so many hugs. we drove to gabby’s house to drop our car off and took the subway to the bus pickup, but we got to hang out with our australian friend goose the whole way since he hitched a ride up with us (he had previously hosted dc-area watch party for us).

we also got to see devin!! and have a drink and catch up and she (who hates hugs) allowed me 3 of them and actually hugged andrew and i cried one single manly tear about it. she seems pretty happy with how things are working out and she likes her job and her brothers are doing well and i’m very pleased for her. i love that girl.

new york was interesting! i had never been and we didn’t leave brooklyn the whole 24 hours we were there, but i liked it enough that andrew and i are making plans to go back. it’s funny because i have no real opinions on cities because i was not raised in one, but andrew’s metric is dc and he gets very annoyed if things do not run the way they do in dc. so nyc was a lot of me going WOWEE I LIKE THIS and andrew being very grumpy.

so i think that’s everything all caught up!

hopefully it won’t be several months between entries next time hahahah

tutututu, dj kahled????????, uber eats??????????????? <33
