It’s been one day…
Well, today was just stellar. NOT. The PA decided to take an unscheduled vacation, apparently, leaving yours truly to shoulder the entire workload. My foot is screaming – each step feels like a tiny hammer is pounding away inside. And to top it all off, the painkiller supply is dwindling faster than my patience.
As if the physical torment wasn’t enough, the boss is breathing down my neck about deadlines that are laughably unrealistic. Honestly, I’m teetering on the edge. One more demanding email or impossible request, and I might just walk out that door and never look back. This can’t be sustainable. I’m so close to just calling it quits.
I’ve been emailed that I will get a new PA the next time I go into work. Let’s see.

Putting on my HR hat: I would answer the boss’s emails explaining why you can’t meet his deadlines. Be specific and also mention the pain you are in because of your injury. Suggest a more reasonable deadline. Leave a paper trail (make sure you print out copies). 99% of the time it’s better that they fire you than to walk out. You can get unemployment benefits easier. One of the buzzwords (or sentence) is “unable to do the work” particularly if the work requested is out of your of normal job duties. If you have the emails to back you up, and they will show that you tried to work out a solution, including working with an injury. Walking off a job may get you denied benefits (or delay them). The company has to pay when you receive benefits in increased benefit “taxes.” They want to avoid that. Caveat: different states have different requirements and conditions. Check with the state’s website.

no job is worth your sanity, well-being, or peace. No amount of money is worth that either. Good luck in your choice
