I am an (arghhh) middle-aged woman who is just trying to put one foot after another on this journey we know as life. I have a wonderful husband, two lovely adult daughters, a delightful adult son and three wonderful granddaughters but none of us are perfect.

Although man is imperfect, God is perfect and God has been more than good to me, He has been everything and has provided everything. And when times have been tough, He somehow brought me through and He’s had to plumb some pretty dark depths to do it so I can testify to His persistence!

But I’m a Christian, not a stereotype, so that means I’m a conglomeration if the many things that make me - me. I just hope my Christianity helps to tie and hold those things together.

Life is weird. My emotions tumble around as if they’re in a spin dryer. Sometimes things seems so beautiful, it’s painful. Other times, I can’t believe how horrible the world is. I guess I also feel like a sort of survivor’s guilt. My life actually IS pretty wonderful, but so many around me have ...

So the sermon this morning was about “as long as it doesn’t hurt anybody…” Of course we all know the fallacy of THAT particular misbelief but he gave examples of things that really DO hurt people, of things that were more like “what they don’t know won’t hurt them…” ie: it won’t hurt her if…

Dandelion Tea made a post of a short list of Happiness is… things (an idea she had gotten from Percival, I think). I was going to do an old mopey post, but I think I’ll do the happiness list instead. ;-) Like Dandelion Tea, I’ll have to start with that first morning sip of coffee……

  • In My Head
    May 9, 2022
I day dream so much and get so much in my head that sometimes the stuff going on in my head is claiming more of my awareness than the stuff going on around me. It’s distracting. A lot of the time it’s the plot or the next scene of a story I’m working on. I…

  • Mother’s Day
    May 8, 2022
Mother’s Day for me, this year, has been weird. I started off with the odd thought that I am tired of being a mother. This is a feeling I’ve NEVER had before in my life—and I’ve been “mothering” for fifty years… more if you count pregnancy as my oldest will be 50 in September. In…

Another gloomy day in Chicagoland... and maybe that's why it's so difficult to get my footing straight. I'm talking this awesome class based on Dallas Willard's Divine Conspiracy book. Now, this is the third time I've been through the book. I did a Bible Study on it with my small group a few year...

  • To Sort Some Things Out
    May 5, 2022
Well, here I am… back in Open Diary again. I first started with OD long ago, back in 2000. I was in it for a long time. Then when it came here, to this iteration, I was in for a short time. Since that time I became a “real” writer. I have two published books…

I find that I’m so traumatized by the rejections I’ve gotten of my written work over the past months that I have like writer’s PTSD.  I don’t even want to submit work anymore... I feel like I’m already rejected, and yet there’s only one way to get published and that’s to submit.  Nobody is going&...

Nice storm here this morning... I actually love thunderstorms.  I love the sound, the smell, that electric excitement in the air.  This one was, actually, nice... a pleasant little storm that kept its roars in the distance.  We don’t get to many bad ones here.  I suppose I wouldn’t be too crazy a...

I stopped writing for awhile and cancelled my subscription because I wasn’t using the diary (even though years ago I was incessant writer).  But I just took this Writer’s Way class and in it I (sort of) got in the habit of doing these things called “Morning Pages.”  I honestly didn’t keep up with...
