American Idol Review – The Girls – Week 3

Paris — Conga — She’s flopping big time, and I just don’t get it.  This girl has a voice, but I don’t know why she’s wasting it on these bad song choices.   Simon says people love her so she’ll get through — well, this person doesn’t love her so much any more, that’s for sure.  Were her good auditions just a fluke?  What happened to the seemingly sweet, mega talented, unaffected girl? 

Lisa — Where I Stand —  Where did her strong voice go?  She was tentative quite a few times.  This song really doesn’t suit her voice.  Ok, halfway through it started getting better.  She’s only Girl #2 and the girls are already losing me.

Melissa — What About Love — Too bad she’s kind of annoying, and what’s with that bad eye makeup?  Sounds good though.  She has a strong, confident sounding voice.  Interestingly, I don’t think she’ll last too long because people won’t warm up to her.  I don’t know what Simon was talking about — that’s a song that you belt out.  If she goes home, it won’t be because of her performance that’s for sure.  So far  – she’s the best of the night.  She was more on key than Paris was tonight.

Kinnik — If I Ain’t Got You —  The beginning was a little too low for her, making it sound awkward.  But she can sing Alicia Keyes — uh oh, boy did I speak too quickly.  That was absolutely awful.  She was everywhere except on the right notes.  What on earth happened?  It was absolutely dreadful.  I don’t know if I’ve heard anything quite this bad on AI, ever.  If she doesn’t go home, the audience doesn’t have ears.  And what’s with the horrible faces she makes while singing?  She’s…she’s…I don’t know.  Just NO! 

Katherine — Think — Hmmm.  This was a very interesting performance.  She sang the song really well, and she had fun with it, but the song itself just didn’t seem like her, you know?  A little girl singing a sexy woman’s song.  But good for her, her voice sounded great.  She’s so happy and has this effortless way of singing.  I am really starting to like her.  

Ayla — Unwritten– Why on earth is she singing this?  Is she nuts?  You simply DO NOT pick a song that’s currently on the radio.  You’re setting yourself up for failure because everyone can hear the original artist and unless you can turn it and make it your own and do it well, no one will like it.  Very weak beginning, then she got better, but not much.  I also don’t like her stage movements — I don’t think she knows what to do with her long limbs yet.  She seems so automated, robotic even.  Sad, I want to root for you Ayla because you’re a home girl, but…sorry, big thumbs down from me.  Put some life, something into your performances.

Mandisa — I’m Every Woman —  GIRL!  As soon as they announced what song you were going to sing I sat forward on the couch KNOWING you were going to knock it out of the ballpark.  The woman can sing, no doubt about it.  She hasn’t let me down yet.  Great performance.  I smiled for her and with her.  She’s just really talented.  I think she is the Chris for the females.  She’s just GOT IT.  BEST of the night, even before I see the final performer I can be sure of that.  Sadly, her looks will get her knocked out.  I know, I know, don’t get mad at me, this fat girl knows only too well that what I say is true.  

Kellie — I’m the Only One — Why is it that the second they say Kellie’s name, I practically cross my fingers hoping she’ll do well?  I so like this little girl.  And she did well tonight again — yay, Kellie.  Although, she, I don’t know.  There was just something about her tonight.  Ditzy?  In any case, I think she’s improving weekly, too.  I know she won’t win, but every week she stays on is another week that someone might see her and sign her.  — Wait a minute!!  What did Simon say?  He likes her better than Carrie?  Wow and hmmmmm.  Not vocally surely, but Kellie really has so much personality, there’s so much joy in that little girl.  If this was a personality contest, she would win hands down!  Wait, see?  There it is: Simon called her a minx and she happily airheadedly says, “I’m A Mink!” … and if you can review it, watch Simon turn his head and try not to laugh.  Ya just gotta love this sweet gal …she’s a young Jessica Simpson in the airhead department though.

Who would I send home?  Without question — Ayla and Kinnik.  Sorry homegirl, go on and play basketball for BC…make us proud that way.
