Update
Hmmm, it has been quite a while since I updated. Well, let’s see…
Last physical therapy session I got to walk against the current in the pool. It was surprisingly difficult. And I was also surprised how noisy it was. Until I started this physical therapy, I had seen advertisements for pools where one could turn on a current and swim against it but I hadn’t realised how noisy the apparatus was! Still on physical therapy news, I am still doing well. I forgot to take the cane with me when I went to the grocery store with Fred yesterday but I managed to walk around with a cart and lurched only occasionally. Oh, and no back pain. I have two more sessions in the pool and then will change to manual PT but with the same therapist. I have chosen to drive out to the orthopedic building of the hospital {although it isn’t with the rest of the hospital buildings} so that I can have the same physical therapist. I really like the way she corrects errors. As as example, I was doing squats standing on the steps of the pool {fourth step very little support with water, third step water a little deeper and then second step…} and she was standing behind me watching. At one point I seemed to have more control over the muscles and she said, "Whatever you did then, keep doing that…" She looks for positive things and points them out to me…
We are still having a cool and rainy summer. There are three tomatoes I can see on the plant in the pot but since we are having very little sun, I am not hopeful about a big harvest this year! But we ate enjoying the relative coolness. And most days we have no problems being in the house without the air conditioners turned on. I have to say that I am turning the bedroom one at night because I don’t sleep well if it is warm. In the winter, we have the vents for the heat closed in the bedroom… Looking at the forecast for the next couple of days it seems to be the same-ole same old. Temperature high around 79 or 80 with clouds, sun, and showers!
OK, time to load the dishwasher, eat breakfast and take a short walk up and down our street without the cane…

Oooo, could you send some of that weather down here? Please??? That’s geat news on the PT front. You know, I never thought about the noise from one of those pools either. That would get on my nerves I think.Enjoy your walk! Hugs,M

The elliptical machines at the gym make a constant whirring sound when used and I find it aggrevates me to hear it. Must be like your pool.

Think about bringing in this potted tomato this fall and it will grow fruit all winter. In a southfacing window. Glad you found a ‘corrector’ who is doing it right! We all could use one of them in our lives, hahahaha. Be well; have fun…dan

When I used to take water aerobics classes, the instructor would have all of us walk in a large circle in one direction, then after one or two complete circles, turn and go in the other direction – it worked similarly to walking against the current – yep… it was difficult! I’m glad you’re feeling better; you’re definitely putting in the effort.

Walking in water is excellent exercise; I love wading along in the water when we go to the beach! :o) !! I’m glad you will get to keep the same physical therapist, too. And I sure wish we were having a cool rainy summer! June was that way, but too many people complained about it, and now we’ve got HAWT AND DRY!! hugs, Nicky

I’m with you, don’t sleep well in the warm. I don’t remember when the last time was we opened the heating vents in the bedrooms. Upstairs is normally hotter anyway. Glad you’re doing well with PT. I’m curious as to how Rich will do with his surgery and PT. Thankfully he has a great pain tolerance. Have a great week!

Wish we had that kind of weather here. It’s too warm here, even if it IS slightly cooler than normal.

You are so lucky with your physical therapist. This is one of the strangest summers that I’ve ever seen — today has been one of the hottest that we’ve had yet, and a great deal of humidity.

Compared to my last summer in Virginia, this one in New York State is a dream, even with the 40 degree nights and the constant rain. Knowing you lived in the south you must have one good fried green tomato recipe, yes?

If I could specify the summer we’re having it would be exactly like this one. Maybe with fewer showers.

It’s been hot here lately. Are you a strong swimmer?

dear Patrisha, thanks for your note! Did you have more surgery? Why the cane & the physical therapy? I HATE my cane & am praying I am done with it, though I suspect I will still need a new knee on the right. Left is going to be OK for a few more years, thanks to cortisone!! love, Anna

We’ve had the cool summer, but the rain, something that I would like, but have been getting jipped on. Our spring though was full of rainy goodness.

Having a good coach can make all the difference. I heard there might be a tomato blight in the northeast because of the gloomy, damp weather. Glad the therapy is working for you…

It’s too bad that more people are not positive. Making positive comments to children is much better than punishment.
