Healthy for the Heck of it

Today we are going around with apples, oranges and bananas for the staff. There wasn’t really a reason so I called it “healthy for the heck of it.” Next Tuesday is National Nut Day, so we will go around with nuts and candy corns.

Last night, when I got off Nick had made Burgers and fries for Kat & himself, and a bunless cheeseburger and zucchini w/ onions for me. Then we all watched The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown special. At first I was honored because Kat had asked to spend the night at a friends since they are off school Thursday/Friday this week, and I had said yes. But when I made it home she was there to watch the movie and family time. Turns out her friend had plans in the morning she didn’t know about. So Kat went shopping with my grandma at 9:30 this morning.

Speak of the devil! Kat just ran in the front door. Apparently grandma found a sale on sweaters and bought a couple to see if I liked them and if I didn’t she would bring them back. They were super cute and who can say no to free clothes?

I didn’t sleep well last night. I tossed and turned to fall asleep and then I woke up at 1:00AM with the worst pain in my stomach. I cried and whined and tried to take a shower but they flushed the fire hydrants in town yesterday so our cold water wasn’t working and all that came out was a trickle of boiling water so I laid back down and writhed in agony until about 3:00AM and fell back asleep. When my alarm went off at 5:00, I thought I hit snooze but I shut it off. I woke up with 10 minutes to get ready and out the door for work. Luckily it is casual Friday.

I had a meeting this morning with our new recruitment specialist and they are going to start giving me incentives. Because I am the first person people see when they enter the building, and I am the one that hands out the applications they are going to give me a bonus for every new hire that stays at least 30 days, another bonus for 90, another for 180 and then 1 and 2 years. Just for doing what I am already doing, by being welcoming and being someone that new people can ask questions to. Um heck yeah.

I received news that I was chosen as one of the 150 people to be in the Women of Villa Group. I didn’t realize it was out of 40,000 applicants. It’s country wide, not just the 11 buildings in Minnesota. Although I was against the “female” part of it, more on board for the “leader” part, I do feel honored to be picked out of such a high number.

I can’t wait for 4 O’clock. Hello weekend!

I hope you’re feeling better now. Sounds like a miserable night. I’m talking about the pain and not sleeping part.

The incentives sound good. Hopefully you can get lots of that extra money.

Congrats on getting chosen for the Women of Villa Group. You must be doing something right.

@heffay I am, thank you. A lot of me getting through things is keeping myself so busy I don’t have time to remember I hurt. Haha.

It’s only 10 dollars per person, (more for department heads) but for the whole building. So lets say you hire 4 nurses, 3 aids, 2 dietary aids, someone in laundry and activities in a month. And half of them stay. That is 50 bucks for me doing what I was already doing.

@thelastdonut hey any extra money is good.

I wonder if who ever thought of handing out these goodies to the staff if they thought about what the percentage of people who have nut allergies?  I am not sure I would be handing out nuts.  Maybe oranges?  the mandarin oranges are coming out now.

It really cool you got picked out of all those people…and congrats on your pay incentives…..Do you do the hiring also?

@jaythesmartone We handed out mandarin oranges today. And that’s why we did candy corn too. It’s the right time of year and about the same size. I don’t think it’s fair to exclude nuts just because some people can’t eat them or visa versa.

It’s not like in elementary school when kids weren’t aware of their allergies. 🙂

@thelastdonut Oh okay…I was just thinking that those you have allergies could have something else…Sorry

Congrats on being 1 in 40,000. That has to be a great feeling. Have you been checked for gallbladder problems. When my gallbladder went I’d wake in the middle of the night with horrible burning stomach pain. Hope you feel better soon.
